Being situated twenty minutes from the Mediterranean, and less than two hours from the Spanish border, in the region of Languedoc-Roussillon, the ancient city of Béziers, which considers itself the Capital of Wine and Rugby, is an ideal centre for exploring this diverse and interesting area.
The area has a very long history of civilisation, and there are Greek and Roman influences dating from many centuries BC. The first vineyards were planted by the Romans and they now dominate the area with mile upon mile of vines which are harvested in the “vendanges” of September, when the air is full of the aroma of fermenting grapes.
