ref: July 30, 2005, "New book about Kerma"
Following the exceptional discovery in 2003 of seven Nubian king statues in a
cachette at Kerma (Sudan), Charles Bonnet (swiss Nubiologist specialized in
Kerma diggings) and Dominique Valbelle (French Egyptologist and Professor at
Lille University) are publishing this September 2005 a very beautiful book on their
discoveries. Called “Des Pharaons venus d’Afrique” (Pharaohs coming from Africa),
the book describes the history of the discovery of the statues in the cachette
within the great temple of Doukki Gel (Kerma) and the history of these “Black Pharaohs”.
They represent the pharaos Taharqa (2), Tanutamun, Senkemanisken, Anlamani and Aspelta.
Broken, but in a very good state of conservation, they will be displayed in the near future
in a new museum in construction next to the archeological site of Kerma.
PS Taharqa and Tanutamun have reigned on Egypt and are the two last pharaohs of the 25th Dynasty.
The book is published by the prestigious “Citadelles and Mazenod” editions in Paris – France.
Recommended price: 49 € - ISBN 285088216X. We don’t know yet if the editor will publish
an English edition.
Below a picture of the cover of the book, plus a photograph of the cachette
when the statues were discovered.
