- Shut up Bob! say in a remarkable coordination four voices to the shiny
car.
- Can't you just act like a normal sentient car? asks Morty, the owner
of Bob. It would just be so more simple!
- It will fail, I tell you, it just can't succeed! We're doomed, admit
it!
- SHUT UP! Or I'll make a couple of new aeration holes! roars Killer.
- Just try it! A kilo of C-12 barely scratches my paint!, replies the
car.
- Can't you just all calm down, I'm trying to concentrate here!
- Come on Sledge! We all know your not even connected yet to the fragging
corp! Anyway, who cares what your doing on that matrix drek? Let's just
get inside, frag anything that moves and go get the fragging scientist!
Who cares about... How do call that, again?
- Subtlety maybe, Killer...
- Yeah, who cares about sutlebty? Thanks Tracy!
- It's the first time I ever hear YOU say thanks!
- Yeah, whatever...
- SHUT UP! For god sake just SHUT UP!
- Ok, ok Sledge...
- This will fail, I tell you, it just can't succeed!
- SHUT UP!
Once again, the silence surrounds the corporation. Luckilly, all that action occured beyond the corps sensors range. The corp is pretty small, with basic security system. In fact, Shogun Tech doesn't have the ressources to have a bigger security system, but this will change soon: their prized scientist, Dr Rosswell, as found a revolutionnary new technology in the field of semi-autonomous knowbot that could eventually enable to build a true artificial intelligence. Once the researches are terminated the corp will have the money to expand and have a real security system. But for now, they just try to keep their researches quiet. Anyway, who could be interested in such a small corp that even Fucci and Renraku don't care about buying it?
Under the full moon sky, four runners and a car are very interested in the small corp in front of them. The shadowrunners team have always worked for Johnsons, but now they tried to go on their own. The corp is small and badly defended and very small, the perfect start foor beginners. They probably won't find anything of interest in there, but even the smallest token proving they ran could worth nuyen and reputation. Of course it won't give them the status of a FastJack or a Kham, but you have to start somewhere, don't you? Right now, nobody cares about this team of newbie independant runners.
On top of a skyscrapper a great dragon in human form is very interested in the team of runners who are arguing about the way to enter the small corp in front of them. These runners are very important for the dragon: they could mean the start of his own corp, which could eventually rival even Lofwyr's if built intlligently. The technology developped in Shogun Tech could mean mucho nuyen for who owns it.
It could mean mucho nuyens, but only if he gets it. "That's a big IF",
the dragon thinks, watching the runners shout at one another. "I should
have figured there was a reason why they didn't ask much... Not that I
actually pay anything, I'm a dragon after all, I just manipulated them
into doing this. I just hope my new corporate empire doesn't end with my
first move."
Suddenly, the runners stop shouting, and the dwarf decker's face change for its bright red color to a more normal look. He types for a while on his cyberdeck, while the other runners get prepared for their first "independant" run. Good thing that weird guy showed up and convinced them to work for themselves instead of any of those corps. You can't trust a corp, but you can trust yourself. That guy even proposed them the run on this small corp, quite a lucky encounter. The dragon, on top of the skyscrapper, continues to watch the runners. "I can't believe they actually fell for it. It was so easy. Going in human form to them, just say 'Hey, guys, you should go on your own. I know a great place to start.' and there they go. They didn't even think I could actually be some corporate guy, trying to convince them to make a run for free. These guys won't live for long I guess... Let's hope they'll live long enough to get out of that corp with what I want." In the dark street near Shogun Tech a voice, the first for 20 minutes, is heard: - When do we go kick some guard's butt? Sledgehammer doesn't have to have all the fun! - As soon as I finish brushing my hair, Killer. - Come on tracy! Nobody cares about what your fragging hair looks like! - Hey! There probably are cameras there, and I don't want to look bad if we can't break them before they get a shot of us... - I'm almost done connecting the drones to the IVIS guys, we'll be ready to go in 5 minutes. - Killer, don't you find me pretty? - That's perfect Morty! Why do you ask that Tracy? You know my feelings toward you! You NEVER look good! You're a troll, remember? At that moment, the dwarf waves his hand in a complex motion that probably means 'Everything's ok here, you can go into that fragging corp and get that scientist.' |
