WET WORK
The story this far...
NeuroWave Inc. (see the protagonists section) has learned from an
employee who left Neotek that this corp was working on a new type of very
powerful and dense skillsoft. Unfortunately, the employee was killed before
he accepted to tell where these work were being done. That's where the
runners come in: they must find where the r&d lab is and then steal
the skillsofts.
Where to find the informations
Professor Imbelman: He is a well informed scientist who works for
Neotek in their secret sea base. He is in town, in a luxurious hotel with
three ork bodyguards, to receive data stolen a Yamatetsu R&D lab and
verify its authenticity. He knows where the research are conducted, but
won't say it unless seriously treatened. He have a "cortex bomb" that contains
acid that liquefy his brain if he doesn't report everyday at 13:00.
Other subsidiaries: The location of the sea-based lab can be
found in the Neotek's headquarters and in Neotek's Headware land division
which is originally called Neotek-Cybernetics. The other divisons don't
have this data. The HQ is well defended and should be hard to enter. Neotek-Cybernetics
is easier to enter as it doesn't contain mcuh sensitive data, except for
that location.
On the matrix: Neotek's matrix is pretty good for a corporation
of its size. Their site contains mostly useless data, and a couple of good
paydata hidden behind a layer of black IC. The information concerning the
sea base is in it, but the only useful information about it is that its
located on the sea instead of being a classical land based office. The
only way to learn the exact position of the sea base is by going through
a very well protected communication link that is established everyday at
a random time with the naval site. By going through this communication
link the decker enters the base's site and can then find its exact position
in a file.
Row, row, row your boat...
After finding the position of the base, the runners must now infiltrate
it. There are more than two ways to enter it, but these are the most probable.
First, they might try to infiltrate the base with a boat of Neotek. To
do so they can sneak into the boat that brought Imbelman on shore and hide
in it until they arrive on the platform. The second way would be to use
their own boat to get there. For this plan, the runners must have a boat.
If they don't, NeuroWave may lend them one for the run, with a driver if
necessary. The boat they give is a modified "Cigarette" that is armored
and can bring four persons at once, they may lend two if its a necessity.
The base itself is protected mainly by flying and submarine drones outside
the base. The submarine drones contain one torpedo and an underwater riffle
for after they shot their torpedo. Inside the base, the defenses are lower
than your everyday secret lab because they consider their base hard to
find and hard to get to (the drones can do a very good job). The security
devices are mostly technological, mainly maglocks and sentry guns guard
it. There is a small number of guards who usually wait in a small tower
on top of the building, sniping at whatever is coming to attack them, before
moving in defensive position inside the bulding. The information about
the new skillsofts can be found in a lab below sea-level, on a big computer.
The data is encrypted and might need some time to a skilled decker to get
it (this computer isn't connected to the matrix), while the
runners shoot the last guards who try to stop them.
The aftermath
After the runners get back on shore, they can contact their fixer who will
arrange a meeting with the Johnson. If you want to had more sweat to this
run, have a couple of Neotek hitmen try to kill them and get their skillsofts
back. The Johnson pays the runners (I'll let you decide how much this pays...)
and they don't hear anything from him ever, or do they?...
Protagonists
NeuroWave Inc.:
This medium sized corporation works in the field
of cybernetics and are specialized in headware. Their production is really
average and thus they tend to drop in front of their competitors. They've
been hiring numerous shadowrunners to run against their competitors or
to find information that could help them become more competitive against
the like of Yamatetsu or, in this case, Neotek.
The information given by Chris Milkwood, the employee
who left Neotek, was like a blessing to NeuroWave. If they were able to
steal this new technology they would certainly become much bigger than
they are now.
Neotek:
This corporation is much bigger and powerful than
NeuroWave and as such they never considered it as a true competitor. They
work in numerous fields of work, ranging from cybernetics to genetics,
having a small office for each of these divisions. Their skillsofts are
recognized as being of good quality, but Fucchi and Yamatetsu have much
better stuff. The new skillsofts they designed enables to put more data
on a smaller chip, making the mass-production of these very cost-effective
and powerful. This new technology is develloped in a sea-based "office",
which is actually a floating platform on which top-secret researchs are
conducted.
Chris Milkwood left Neotek one day, and never came
back. He wasn't a high level scientist, and therefore didn't have any "security
systems" that would kill him if he ran away. All he knew was what was going
on and where it was going on. It took Neotek a week to find Milkwood and
send hitmen to kill him, in the meantime he had time to sell what he knew
to NeuroWave.
Professor Imbelman:
Professor Imbelman is an old scientist who wants
to make an important discovery before he dies. The new skillsofts are his
chance for doing so, and he doesn't want anybody to steal them from him.
He doesn't have any family, having spent most of his life in a secret lab
of some sort, and very few friends. Neotek is his only employer for 30
years and he doesn't want to betray them.
