The Empire of Ekbir
I am putting together this web page as a resource for the
players in my AD&D campaign. However, I also realize that
the adventure, NPC, and campaign ideas within could be of
use to other fantasy roleplayers. Everyone is welcome to
use this page. It is not intended to infringe upon TSR or
anyone elses copyright. Instead, for my players it is
intended to be a source of background information and news,
and for others, it is like my opening up my campaign binders
and saying, "Take a look at what I've designed." Enough with
the introductory stuff.
Campaign Summary
The Ekbirian Civil War Campaign is set in the campaign world that
my father, brothers, and I have been playing AD&D in since I was
in grade school. While based on the World of Greyhawk, the
campaign has changed enough things that only the map remains
similar to the original campaign. The area used is the Caliphate
of Ekbir and the Tiger Nomads. In this campaign, these are
two of three kingdoms in the Empire of Ekbir. The third kingdom
is a group of islands in the Dramij Ocean. Tusmit by this time
has allied with Ekbir (for details on the reason for this alliance,
see the History of the Shadow War section) and Zief has been
corrupted by the Cult of the Dragon and become isolationist in
the extreme.
Campaign Background Material
A History of the Shadow War
The Kingdom of Ekbir
The Kingdom of Ekbir, formerly known as the Caliphate of Ekbir,
was conquered by Rendy Feadiel in 587 C.Y. (it is currently
606 C.Y.). Why King Feadiel conquered the Caliphate is debated
by hundreds of scholars, and every scholar has their favorite
version. King Feadiel never gave a direct answer to the question,
and his untimely death means that he never will. However, at the
beginning of the Shadow War, the Ekbirian economy and lifestyle
were the envy of every country in Western Greyhawk. After the
War of Ice, the Kingdom of Ekbir was joined with the Tiger Nomads,
formed into the Kingdom of Callahorn, to form the Empire of
Ekbir. However, the two kingdoms were governed as separate
states within the same nation, just as the Kingdoms of the Isles
was after its people were freed from the giants. The Kingdom of
Ekbir is now ruled by Queen Aithne, widow of the Emperor.
