Fleer provided wonderful prizes, giving a holo heroes for first, a set of Onslaught heroes and Mission cards for second, a set of Adam Warlock for third and a set of Onslaught heroes for fourth. All the participants received the Captain Universe card, and I gave out some other free participation cards.
The tournament was a no locations constructed deck tournament Daniel's winning deck was Invisible Woman, Scarlett Witch, Captain Mar-vell, and Professor X in reserve. Mark Owen's deck was Onslaught, Mojo, X-Babies and Dr. Strange in reserve. Other decks included the combinations: Super Patriot, Heroes for Hire, Juggernaut, and Thing in reserve; Morlocks, Blob (3), Juggernaut, and Heroes for Hire; Magneto, Holocaust, Proffessor X, and Dr. Strange in reserve; Onslaught, Professor X, X-Babies, and Brainiac in reserve; Nightcrawler, Reavers, Mauraders, and Hawkeye in reserve; Dazzler, Dr. Reyes, Shadowcat: Age of Apocalypse, and Crystal; and The Ray, Proffessor X, Scarlett Witch, and Brainiac in reserve.
Other interesting cards included a Pym Particles in the winning deck, Several uses of the Book of Darkhold, and an ultimate nullifier.
This was the first time Mark Owen (one of the best Charlottesville kids) has placed in the top 4. Mark actually had the best record of the day (5-1), losing only to Daniel in the finals. Congradulations Mark!
This was also the first tournament for two new Charlottesville kids: Brenton Wolfe and Winston Wolfe. Brenton determined at the last minute that his deck was over the limit and in a rush to get his brother to the tournament left his deck at home. He borrowed a deck from Megan Marotta (the all girls deck of Dazzler, Dr. Reyes, Shadowcat: Age of Apocalypse, and Crystal) and finished with an impressive score of 2-2. Great playing for a first tournament with a borrowed deck!
