This game has given me the oppurtunity to travel so much. I've
been to Chicago (twice), Buffalo (twice), Canada, West Virginia (countless
times) and now, Boston. Fenway Park was a dream come true.
It was so hard to believe that I was finally there! Phil Miller and
I made the long drive from Columbus and because of a traffic jam, we missed
the first inning. The Sox were up 4-1 when we got there. We
found out later that Mike Stanley had hit a home run in the first.
There were no other home runs in the game but Boston won, 14-3. We
couldn't have picked a better game to go to. They seemed to score
every inning. We even got a free t-shirt which I'll wear proudly
at THE OP CUP 2.
As for our stay in Boston, I'll just say this. I didn't want
to leave. Lee and Mo made our visit there so much fun, if we hadn't
run out of money, we would have stayed another day. I can't wait
to go back and I'm making plans to be at the Scarlet Witch Invatational.
Thanks, Lee and Mo, for everything! And thanks to all the guys at
the tournament. You all made the trip worth while.
Sixteen players showed up for the tournament. They called it
MOJO'S SUPREME EDITS tournament. Every game was issued a set of ten events
(the same events were given to everyone) and every hand you would turn
one over and it would be in play that battle. This really made things
interesting and I must say that I enjoyed it. It added a new level
of stratagy. I played Tim O'Leary in the first round and he
was determined to show everyone that Gambit is a tournament worthy character.
He failed. I had told everyone that I would not be playing my Beyonder/White
Queen deck, just to give everyone there a chance. Instead, I played
H4H, Starjammers, X-Babies and Callisto in reserve. I beat Lord Tim
even though he got to play two of his Power Man specials for his H4H.
Round two was against Justin (League of America). His game was a
short one, as his Any Characters could not keep up and he never got DOW
into play. Round three was a game I had wanted all day. (No
more than I had want Lord Tim but every bit as much.) Maverick had
drove up from NY and he was on everyone's hit list. Nothing personal
Charlie, we just like to beat up New Yorkers. Charlie was also 2-0
and he had Maraduers, H4H (Seen alot of them in the tournament), Babies
and Hawkeye in reserve. I lost the first hand but shortly after that,
the game was mine. Charlie made one BIG mistake that cost him the
game. After round three Phil and I were the only two undefeated players
left. My prediction of Ohio dominating the tournament was looking
like a fact. Mo was just hoping we didn't take first and second.
He wanted some saving grace for the day. Phil beat me in a very close
game in round four. He drew the KO event in the first hand and I
battled it out but in the end, I just couldn't pull it off.
Single elimination was next and we continued to use the Mojo events.
My game was against Carl Seher. He was playing Onslaught, Shadow
King, Brainiac and Prof X in reserve. He was using Any Characters.
I was up two missions after the second hand and Hidout Discovered came
up in hand three. I ventured four but should have bet for the game.
He had placed two teamworks and I had a big card advantage. I won
the hand but lost H4H and Starjammers the next hand and the game shortly
thereafter. Carl played a great game. He went on to play Lee
(who had beaten Phil) the next round and Carl played one of the best games
I ever seen. After beating Lee he played Maverick in the finals.
I didn't get to watch this game but Maverick won, finishing at 6-1 for
the day. Watch out, Charlie, that grudge match is coming!
A great weekend was finished off with a smooth drive home. I
can't wait to go back to Boston!
