The Devil's Temptation

- -A Poem- -

It came upon the dead of night through an opening in the mist
As I stared at the vision before me, I raised up my fists
Its heart of fire and looks of steel
I have wondered if the illusion was real

Our eyes met and we stared into each other's souls
And as the darkness engulfed me, I realized my role
I hoped that death should not claim me yet
But the blazing entity began to fret

It went back into the darkness and beckoned for me to follow
I refused and somehow found my way to tomorrow
But the fire trail he made is engraved into my soul
I know where the darkness leads and I know what he has not stole

I have left the darkness and turned toward the light
But I surely vow to never return to that night
When the rage overwhelmed me and I stood on the edge of death
For if The Rider has taken my soul then surely I have nothing left
