Overview
 
    Software is used to do certain tasks on a computer.  There are two different types of software, Operating Systems and Application Software.  Operating Systems are software that run your system, using a user interface.  The operating system works with the application software to perform certain functions on your computer.  Application Software only does certain tasks, there is application software to type letters, make spreadsheets, play games, keep your checkbook, and many others.

    Software can be purchased at pretty much any department stores, trade stores, even on the internet.  Internet stores like Egghead.com, computerwarehouse, and  MicroSoft have swallowed the market.  The amount of stores carrying software has increased immensely, due to how much sales go on, everyone wants a piece of the action.  Internet stores have driven sales up to an all time high, there are even websites that will let you set up your own store online, and give you a commision for all sales through your website.
 

Pricing

    Software comes in all different price ranges, you can get software for free or even thousands of dollars per program.  There are literally hundreds of websites online filled with freeware, shareware, betas, and trial software waiting to be downloaded.
