1) Change your password.
The password you get from GeoCities is just a set of letters. It will be hard to remember, thus you should change your password. MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE IT TO SOMETHING THAT IS A COMBINATION OF LETTERS AND NUMBERS. Go to Profile Editor Page in order to change your password.
2) Set up Web Folder and download Index.html page.
First, go to your folder on the file server. Create a new folder, call it "Geocities." Then open up your home page at the correct geocities URL. Once you are viewing your home page, do a view source command to save that home page file. Make sure it is saved in your "Geocities" folder. This file will be called "index.html." Don't change the name of this file.
3) Modify your main page.
This is a quick modification, just so you can learn to make changes and upload the new file to the GeoCities server. Open "index.html" up in the WordPad program. Go to the section of the "index.html" page where it says "My interests are:...." I want you to erase "no interests listed" and enter two interests of your own. Next, save and close the file.
4) Upload that Modification using the GeoCities Tool: File Manager.
First you should add this page to the list of favorites, you will visit this page every day you plan to make changes to your web site. Next enter your member name and password, then click on submit. The next page will provide you a variety of information about your pages. At this point it will only list one page under your site, this is the "index.html" page. Scroll down until you see the upload files boxes. Click on browse and select your new version of "index.html" in the "GeoCities" folder. Click on open, once you have the "index.html" file highlighted. Finally, click on upload button. Once you have done this, re-visit your home page to see the changes. You may have to click re-fresh if at first you don't see the changes.
