Technique of the Day: Blizzard
Ice techniques have got to be among the most versatile of all. They are super-effective on Grass, Flying, Ground, and Dragon types alike, and only prove ineffective on Water and Ice types. They are Special-based, which means that any Pokémon with a decent rating in that attribute can pack a punch with Blizzard. For a technique of its power, it has tremendously remarkable accuracy, and perhaps one of the most useful status ailments in the game: freeze. The odds of this happening aren't that impressive (around 10%), but it's still worth the try. As Azure Heights put it: "Nothing brings an enemy closer to defeat than being frozen." Perhaps the best advantage of this technique is that it also comes in TM format, which means your high-Special Pokémon can gain more versatility, even if they aren't Ice types. The only drawback of Blizzard is its low PP rating, but that is generously compensated by its power rating.

Pokémon of the Day
No. 065 Alakazam
Speed and Special are Alakazam's trademarks. With its maximum Special rating going as far as 368, it can easily down a good number of Pokémon in the matter of two or three uses of the Psychic technique. Another of this Pokémon's very nifty features is its ability to learn Recover, one of the most useful techniques in the game, especially when you consider Alakazam's relatively low HP and Defense ratings. Following is a widespread sort of Alakazam, designed to act as a paralysis platform as well as an assault Pokémon. Many variants include the use of Reflect to compensate for low defense, and Kinesis (only with Yellow carts) to reduce enemy accuracy and provoke a switch. Alakazam definitely makes a versatile platform.
