"No way! Not a chance!"
The woman stood with her hands at her hips.
"You will watch your little cousin tonite Desmond and that's final!"
"Aww Mom I got plans tonight!"
She left the room ignoring his protests. Desmond kicked a small toy
dejectedly. What was he supposed to do now?
Robin came bouncing into the room his usual bundle of energy.
Desmond's mom smiled and waved and left the house promptly.
"What we gonna do tonite Dez?" Robbie asked hugging Desmond's knees.
He ran a hand over his face and groaned. He had no choice Lord Igles would
only be visiting for another day or so. It was now or never.
"Why you're going to help me Robbie. We're going to go after the," Desmond
paused dramatically, "Rainbow drops!"
Robbie ed his head like many dig's did when they were confused.
"Huh?"
"No time for questions Rob we gotta get going!"
Desmond grabbed the boy's hand and dragged him outside.
It took some time but an hour or so later Desmond dropped onto the roof and
helped Robbie down from the chimney.
The pair walked over to a skylight and looked down. On a pedestal in the
middle of the room sat a small bag partially opened. Inside the bag there
could be seen many small orbs that shifted colors periodically.
"Okay Robbie Here's what I need you to do I need you to be lookout. While I
sneak down and grab the rainbow drops."
"Lookout? Lookout for what?" Robbie asked suspiciously thinking Desmond was
trying to trick him.
"Look out to make sure nothing's coming," Desmond said quietly. He affixed
some ropes to the skylight and with a sharp blade cut open one of the
windows to sneak in through.
"Okay Robbie you ready?"
The little boy nodded excitedly. Desmond tied some of the rops around his
waist and arms and dropped down slowly. He continued his descent until he
was suspsended just a few feet from the bag. Desmond licked his lips
greedily. They were going to be rich! He swayed slightly trying to inch
closer to the bag. He stretched out and got a hand on the edge of the
pedestal. Almost there almost there....
And then the door opened.
Robin bounced out excitedly, "Let me help let me help!"
Desmond turned white, "Robin I told you to be lookout your supposed to stay
on the roof!" Desmond twisted around trying to undo the ropes he had to get
Robin outr of here. But the more he turned and fought the more tangled he
got until he couldn't move at all.
"Robbie just go back home and get some help PLEASE." Desmond tried to keep
the fright out of his voice.
"Just go and get me some help I'm stuck."
The boy didn't seem to hear him and instead was staring at the pedestal,
"Are those the Ramebow drops?"
"Yes.. Don't get any closer Rob there might be traps!"
But Robin wasn't listening he scampered forward making a beeline for the
pedestal. Desmond scrunched his face up expecting to hear the worst. Arrows
whizzed out from the walls on either side of the room narrowly missing
Robin. As the boy continued sharp spikes most likely tipped with posion shot
out as well. A net fell from the ceiling right atop Robin but the boy was so
small he easily fit in between the ropes. Finally he made it up to the
pedestal and he stood still just admiring bag and the rainbow drops that
sparkled in the moonlight. The boy didn't hear the click as he step on top
of the cobblestone. He hadn't realised he had just triggered another trap.
Robin looked down and saw that one of the drops had been knocked off. He
bent down to pick it up and a large double bladeded axe swung just inches
above the boys bent back to slam into the wall on the other side.
Desmond opened his eyes to see Robin holding the bag.
"Here Dez try one!" He stuffed the large gem into the would be theif's
mouth.
"Now I'll go get some help for you," Robbie said determinately. He stuffed
the bag of rainbow drops into his pack and raced out of the room.
Some time later Lord Igles hosting his party gave his guests the grand tour.
He opened the door to show off his priceless set of jewels, the rainbow
drops.
"And this is the legendary rainbow drops!"
When he didn't get the reaction he was expecting Igles looked inside to see
Desmond swaying slightly with one of the drops in his mouth.
"I didn't do it," the theif mumbled around the gem.
