Over the years I keep having a short dream about something that happened back in the fall 1978 - spring 1979 range. Maybe the person the dream is about will read this web page someday. Or maybe someone else could point out how it can't be true. Which in that case I wonder what would be left of the dream. The place, South Street in Philadelphia PA. Saturday Nights. The location, the theatre of living arts or as more popularly known, the TLA. The event, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The obsession? Well it was like the 5th week in a row I was down to see RHPS.
Tickets sold out early so you had to get down there before 9 or 10. All the bars down there carded but you could get a beer at the Philadeli as long as you looked over 18. One night it was misty muggy dark and damp. I was drinking pepsi and sloe gin. About 11 pm I was wandering up South Street.
Outside of Grendel's Lair I run into this woman, literally bumped into her. The most incredible beauty I had ever seen in all my 17 years. Nannette Mancini from the group Johnny's Dance Band. The song Wrap Me Up was still blazing through my head from hearing it earlier. She was only a foot away and half smiling and that gaze was drilling deep into my soul and just as I was about to pass out I notice the 4 guys with her looking at me like I was in Frank-N-Furter drag. But her blue eyes were like liquid ice melting my brain. And as quickly as it came on it was over and I was staring at a space with nobody there. Nothing but a Mink Deville poster on the wall..
Was it really Nannette Mancini? If it wasn't she was a dead ringer for the girl on the cover of Love Wounds, Flesh Wounds. And does Nannette Mancini have blue eyes? And what is the possibility Nannette Mancini will read this? OK ok I'm sounding a bit obsessed here :) I promise I am not a deranged stalker. But every once in a while I see those eyes in my dreams. If they are not Nannette's then who am I dreaming about?
Ok, spring 2005 and I have found out from a reliable source, another band member, that Nanette Mancini does not have blue eyes. So my search is now on for the Nanette Mancini look-a-like with Blue eyes that hung out on South Street in the late 1970's
Maybe it was just a dream I had that has intensified over the years. Or more likely there were thousands of hot girls on south st. on any given saturday night. And I have one more dream. That Johnny's Dance Band finally made it's way to CD. Geez isn't this 2006 already? How come I have a piece of vinyl but there is NO CD ??????????????
