The year is 2091, far enough in the future that the human population is straining the world's resources, but not far enough for technology to come to the rescue. The United States has collapsed into feudalism. A weakened United Nations vainly attempts to maintain order across the globe. Corporations have withdrawn from society to become micro-nations unto themselves. There is a feeling that a new dark age is coming. As more of the rich and powerful retreat behind real and virtual barriers, the rest of humanity is left to fend for itself.

For those on the outside there is hope, of sorts. Out of the urban expanse has emerged the legend of an approaching epoch. A time known as Chron X when the destiny of mankind will be determined. Many speak of Chron X as the dawn of a new golden age, others believe it will herald the final destruction of humanity.

Existing on the edges of the decaying society is a mysterious organization called The Body. For generations it has worked for its own enigmatic purposes, revealing nothing about its inner mechanisms. Though many have worked for The Body over the years, none have seen its masters and its ultimate motives remain unknown.

But something has changed. Communications from the inner circle of The Body have ceased. In the outer circles, rumors have spread like viruses. Some say the masters of The Body destroyed one another in a cataclysmic struggle for control. Others believe the long sought grail of faster-than-light travel was attained and the masters departed for a new, better world. Still others believe the silence is a sign that the fabled Chron X is imminent.

Left to themselves, the individual command teams of The Body's outer circle have turned on one another. You are a leader of one such command team. In a race against time, you must find and destroy your opponent's secret headquarters before they do the same to you. Resources in this world are scarce, and your agents aren't always what they appear to be. Against this backdrop you battle to unite the fragmented outer circle and solve mystery of The Body's silence.
