My Comments

Zanac was one of the first NES games I played way back in the days when the Nintendo Entertainment System was THE system to have*. I've always had memories of it being a great game. Naturally when I got a NES system again, 6 years or so later, Zanac was the first game I tried to get. I was very lucky too. I paid a higher price than most other games for it (because I was anxious and bought the first one I saw), but it was money well spent. The game was in like-new condition except for a small fray on one box corner. Other than that, it was like-new. The box was almost perfect, and I could detect no defects with the manual. As for the game cartridge, it came with a clean dust cover, and the cartridge was very clean and in excellent condition.

Playing the game I was very pleased to find that it was as good as I remembered it. While the graphics are nothing spectacular, they are good. The music is very good. The game is a shooter, and is well-made. There are two types of weapons your ship fires, regular and special weapons. The regular gun can shoot one to three shots, depending on how many special "circles" you get (for lack of a better name). There are nine or ten special weapons to choose from. In addition to this, if you get two or more of the same special weapon, it improves. For example if you have the one where a ball spins around you, and you get two of it, the number of spinning balls doubles. If you have shields, the area it covers can get wider, etc. You can also get options where your regular shots can become wider. In addition to the weapons, one of the things that can show you some good work was put into it was that the ship tilts when you move around. For example, if you move to the right, the ship "rolls over" a little, or tilts to the right. In a cheap shooter game, the ship will not rotate. There are also some "AI" features discussed on the box which I can't really explain in great detail, but supposedly the game adjusts to your playing style or something.

If you have an 8-bit NES system, I highly reccommend you get this game. They don't sell it new anymore (obviously), so you'll have to check out used video game shops.

*It still is actually, most people just don't know it ;)
