All in all, I'd rather be in Philadelphia. (11/27/03)
Five Auntie points if you can name who was quoted as
saying this, and what year... I will give you one hint –
it's probably not who you think it is.
A lot of things have happened since my last little rambling - including
more deaths everyday in Iraq, tragic attacks in Turkey, the New York
Ferry disaster, just to mention a few.
Kinda makes you put
things in perspective....
Does that mean the Zone issues are
insignificant? Of course not. But why not apply what we do in real
life to the toils and troubles on the zone?
For example,
always take that “reality check”. Does it really affect
you or your loved ones personally? If not, then step away from the
keyboard! Take a breath, prioritize things, and put them in
perspective.
Do you want it to be corrected? Then DO
something appropriate. Forums are good – because its get the
issue out to the public. It lets other people know that they are not
the only one experiencing the issue.
But what else can you do?
If it's a zone “bug”, then report to the zone. As a
professional programmer, I know that in order to fix many problems,
you have to be able to reproduce them. So, the more useful information you
can give, the better. Does this mean that they always listen and
fix it right away? Of course not!
There would be no reason for
Aunties, then..
But I can guarantee that if problems aren't reported, they won't be
fixed...
Then there are the non-Zone bugs - the People issues.
The same rules, as above, apply here as well...
But back to
the forums...
When exposing or reporting a problem – be
specific. If someone reading your post can't figure out who or what
you are specifically talking about, then odds are it will have no
impact (or a negative impact!). Most importantly, THINK about what
you are posting. What is the issue? What are you trying to
accomplish? What do you want improved, removed, or added? Forums are
a great tool for communication, and discussions, but its up to the
posters to take advantage of it.
But enough of my persistent rambling...
My family and I wish each, and everyone of you, dear readers, the best for the
upcoming holidays.
