Hello, from Kansas!
My name is AuntRazie and I live in a
small farming community in Western Kansas. I have a fantastic seven year old son known to many of my friends as the "white tornado". He keeps me constantly on the run and on my toes, and he also talks non stop like his mother.
As I said before, I live in a small farming community where our main crops raised in Kansas are wheat. Also, one of the largest employers in the county I live in and also around the state and across the United States is the oil industry.
Down the road about ten miles is another small community called "Herzog" which is the German name for Victoria (I believe). This small community is the home of a beautiful cathedral this side of the Mississippi, and it was named by William Jennings Bryant "The Cathedral of the Plains". This cathedral is built out of native limestone that is found here in Western Kansas. The building of this cathedral was a labor of love for the Volga Germans and is found in the majestic structure of this church.
As you are traveling down the highways and biways of Kansas, take a look around. You will see lots of native limestone that is used for fence posts, for barns, and even for homes now. Some of the limestone has indentations acquired over years of lying in the fields and pastures, and if you look closely you can sometimes find an actual fossil.
You can also find what is called by some as the "Kansas Diamond". My son loves to go exploring along the Smoky Hill River and come home with quite a bit of the "Kansas Diamonds". These "Kansas Diamonds" are actually clear pieces of quartz that have been lying about for millions of years and some are small pieces and some can be quite large, and each has it's own unique design.
Well, this is the part of Kansas that I live in, and the place that I know best. Hope you have enjoyed my little summary of Western Kansas! Talk to you soon!
Phenomenal Woman
by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.
