The prisoner is led to the whipping post:  You can see the man's fear as he is pushed toward the site of his impending punishment.   Perhaps he has tasted the lash before, or maybe he has witnessed the effect of the whip on other men... And below:  The man is stripped to the waist, and bound to the stake.  He looks back over his shoulder as the warder approaches, cat-o-nine tails at the ready...
