Mylynde was studying magic in Megalos City when word reached her than
her brother Rogar had vanished. Rogar was neither as smart as his sister nor
as magically attuned. He pretty much washed out of magical training, largely
having only mastered Lend ST, but wouldn't accept the fact, finding excuses
and people to blame for every failure of his.
He'd been hanging around a group of magic students generally regarded as
troublemakers, wizards rumor said had connections to the infamous Scarlet
Mages guild (think of as a magical mafia if the mafia could legally
incorporate).
She was able to track Rogar's movements out of the city proper and believes
he is heading towards Azer in the company of two of the shadier mages, Alys
Clearvoice and Daniel of Medavton, along with some of the bodyguards Alys
keeps around her.
What's going on: Rogar is every bit the idiot he appears to be, so
desperate to be a wizard without working to master what spells he can learn
that he's taking Alys at her word that she's bringing him to a master mage who
is willing to boost his magical aptitude and then let him learn the mage's
spells.
In point of fact, any magic, psi or skill that accurately determines true
statements from false will confirm what she's said as true. The master wizard
has developed methods of increasing a mage's magery. They're riskier than
he's been led to believe. If he survives the process (and two previous
candidates have failed) the master wizard will cast exchange bodies and
put his mind, spells and abilities into Rogar's healthy body.
Alys was responsible for the recruitment of one of the previous candidates
for this process and is being hunted by the mage's father. He's managed to
find out some of what's happened but has no idea of where Alys has gone.
Should he and Mylynde get together they may have a chance to rescue Rogar and
avenge the son.
