Like Murder Stoned I awoke in your temple To blackness above you And death beside me Where kitchen knives conspire Razor blades make bloodless love Like Murder The ghost of a pale girl is solemnly following me Pale will she follow me Into the sea I feel the flowers screaming To consume you Like Murder Earth and sky your cradle Earth and sky entomb you And death beside me I burrow through the dust In your skull But I cannot seem to find your soul Bloodless and numb We orbit the sun Hungry will this pale thing Follow me into the sea On the cold side of her face The reptiles awake Locust swarm from open mouths That sing thy kingdom come While blackness hums Nothing is true and I'm tired of your sad today You're screaming because There's nothing left for you to say Bloodless and numb We orbit the sun Hungry will this pale thing Follow me into the sea Stoned I awoke in your temple To blackness above you And death beside me Where kitchen knives conspire Razor blades make bloodless love Like Murder

The Beautiful Downgrade

Fingered slowly like the first time you came The agents of oblivion descend upon the sane Caked with mud and mother's blood Playing death games in the rain And we wonder how it feels to be free I thought I heard them whisper mutiny Living room rape scenes We cut their throats while they slept Dreaming and digesting shards of turtle shell The television's blaring And the ghost of Hitler speaks Crowned with barbed-wire I smear my warm semen on the walls of my oppression I accuse God for the murder of eternity My everything that is nothing Christian propaganda and dog sperm Degeneration... The beautiful downgrade Do you remember the first sunrise? Sharpened bone clenched tight in your fist Screaming into the blue An urge to kill the sky I can smell the forest like pussy in heat Barefoot I run through the chaos The assassins of freedom tend the burning of truth As we walk these prison walls It's maddening, always touching something

for individualism and ripe brains
the skull farmers do their rain dance
and pray the machine falls to sleep
she holds me close
and whispers wet
"there are cannibals among us."
mad in love with dry dead boys
in the backs of
abandoned cars
smoking the bones of children
Plotting the murder of love
God has turned his back on us his daughter that sleeps with
black boys
the spotlight glares
like the eyes of forever
their scopes feel the
heat of my skin
this cold thing that thirsts
for the sun
this corpse that convulses
to breath
the Kite String Pops...
and I'm swallowed whole
by the sky

June 1997: For reasons not entirely clear, Dax and Mike have left the band. A rumor has it that Dax left to do songwriting projects of his own and that he may try to work with the band again shortly. Mike is rumored to have left so that he can stay sober. In any event, I support the band members in their decisions (they're people too!), but as a fan of their incredible sound I'll always hope they get back together. January 23, 1997: Audie Pitre, Acid Bath's bassist, was killed when a drunk driver hit the vehicle that he, his parents, and 13-year-old brother were in. Audie and his parents were tragically killed, but the younger brother is doing well.

The following is a bio from a Rotten Records mailer: Secluded in the outback swamps of the Louisiana bayou, Acid Bath creates an indescribable sound that breaks all the barriers of standard, structured music. Take the vocal conscience of Dax Riggs, the innovative drum techniques of Jimmy Kyle and guitar master Mike Sanchez, blend well with Sammy Duet's guitar mastery/subliminal vocals and add one part penetrating bass courtesy of Audie Pitre and there you have it.

This gumbo of hardcore, gothic, psychedelic, punk rock conquers what death metal has yet to encounter. The flow of creative juices induced by the atmosphere of a remote barn led to their first live demo. A dash of old Black Sabbath and Iron Butterfly covers accented their recipe of ten original songs. This self-promoted experiment titled Hymns Of The Needle Freak sold well locally and packed every show since their 1991 origination.

According to Dax Riggs, "I can't understand why someone hasn't already done what we've accomplished. It's just a matter of writing for ourselves, incorporating variations of styles into what would be our favorite band. I feel like we could do just about anything and get away with it."

Acid Bath's formula disregards preachy lyrics and provokes individual thoughts as Dax ranges from angelic melodies to demonic depths. For his barrage of percussion Jimmy uses a nine piece set with a double bass and springless snare. Mike and Sammy create a unique wall of guitars as Audie fills in the mortar with his pulsating bass. "It takes all five of us to create our sound, no more and no less," says Jimmy. "This is a total group effort."

Spike Cassidy strikes again, using his talent to produce When The Kite String Pops on Rotten Records' label. After DRI and STG, Spike adds this latest notch in his belt of musical endeavors. With "Mr. California-record-producer-man" coming to their alligator-ridden territory, Acid Bath wasn't quite sure what they were in for. As it turns out, this mesh of talent captured their ultimate sound without sacrifice of artistic integrity (well, maybe a few hangovers and bruises from their session breaks). "Spike's input definitely helped," says Sammy. The feeling is unanimous.
