May 9, 1809 Ebelsburg
As Napoleon's 1809 campaign lengthened into summer, the Austrians were falling
back across the Danube in several places. Marshal Massena's IV Corps was
tasked with pinning Field MarshalHiller's army group (Archduke Ludwig's
V Corps and Hiller's VI Corps) in place to allow Napoleon to encircle and
destroy the Hiller. The elusive Hiller had frustrated Massena several times
and now the French were pursuing the Austrians recklessly toward one of
the Danube's larger tributaries, the Traun. Massena's vanguard rushed headlong
into Ludwig's forces, guarding the bridge over the Traun to Ebelsberg. Buying
time for the Austrian engineers to prepare the bridge for demolition, Hiller
has turned part of his Corps back to fight Massena.

Austrian
The Austrian Engineers are setting gunpowder on the bridge to blow it up. They need 8 hours (16 turns) to do a proper job of it. The Austrians win by holding the bridgehead area (see Scenario Notes) for 16 turns or by breaking the French army.
French
The French win by clearing the bridgehead area (see Scenario Notes) of formed Austrian units (by the end of 16 turns) or by breaking the Austrian army.
(Note: Ideally the French side should not know how long it will take for the Austrian Engineers to successfully place their charges.)
Balance
Decrease game length to 16 turns and time to blow the bridge to 14 turns.

This battle is a semi-historic action. The order of battle I used is based on the historic units present in these Corps at or near Ebelsburg on May 9, 1809.
Cavalry:
The Austrian units above actually only had 3 regiments of cavalry but they were 8 squadrons each so I split them into 2 regiments to even the numbers with the French cavalry.
The French cavalry attached to Massena's Corps was actually seven regiments strong, the four numbered chasseur regiments, the Hesse-Darmstadt Chevau-Legers, and two other Confederation light cavalry regiments. Their combined strength was 23 squadrons so I merged the Confederation cav units into two regiments and used the Hesse Light Dragoons since I had them painted and didn't have the other two. The concessions we make for our little figures.
Infantry & Artillery:
Historically, the Austrians did not have this much infantry facing Massena in front of the Traun, only a very light rearguard division (Hohenfeld's unit). I took the liberty of moving some units across the river to make it a more even fight. The Austrian artillery park at Ebelsburg was massive, 20 plus batteries of various sizes. It was also massively mishandled.
The French also had more troops than what is present here, two more divisions (another French division and another Confederation division) and their artillery park. The Cavalry division did not have an organic horse battery from what I have found so I borrowed one from the Corps.
The battery designations are fictional (ie Position Battery #37, 8e cie. 7e d'Artillerie à Pied).
