Baylen, July 19, 1808

General Dupont's 2nd Corps of Observation is in a bad situation and
its getting worse. Short two divisions, 2nd Corps is facing a larger
Spanish force with another division moving in to trap them. Can
Dupont's mixed bag of troops break through the Spanish and save
themselves? Or will the Spanish do the unthinkable, and wipe out one
of Napoleon's Corps?

Order of Battle notes:

This battle is a historic action. It is based on the scenario taken from "Napoleonic Scenarios" by Buck Sardu. I'm sure you'll quickly notice that both armies are, for the most part, junk. At first I thought this would not be a very interesting encounter but playtesting has shown it to be very exciting. With both sides having lower break points than normal, units tend to not hang around for very long and overall morale of the divisions plays an important part in the battle.

Infantry: The Spanish had many less than full strength infantry battalions. I have compressed them to arrive at a manageable number. The French 4th division was actually destroyed about two days previous to this action but playtesting has shown that the French need the extra manpower.

Cavalry: While Spanish cavalry at this action had more than ten regiments worth of effectives, they suffered from a woeful shortage of horses, only having enough to mount about five regiments worth. There was a large number of small units as well as some full strength regiments and the units shown here were present in relatively full strength. I have rated them slightly higher than normal because I figured that the best troopers would be given the available mounts. The French cavalry were an amalgamation of line regiments depot squadrons and hastily raised repalcements and are rated a step lower than normal.

Artillery: The French army is on the move. They don't get their customary heavy guns because they were either somewhere in the train or left behind.
