Look here for the Russian Purchases and Fortification placement for Day 9 (no fair peeking Rob or JR!)

Sadly, we have had to conclude our playing of CG III, mainly due to time constraints on my part.

We did play a few turns of Day 9, and it was looking very bad for the Russians. The Germans landed a Rocket OBA in the L15 factory which wiped out a large portion of my defenders, even with only stacking a squad per hex. With a 5 hex hole in the middle of our line, the German Pioneers jumped forward into the breach and also hit the big factory and put the pressure on.

At the same time, a large flanking force entered from A26 to A35. They made short work of my defenders in C28 and were pushing on to the main road, despite the presence of half a company of Rifle squads in reserve. We found out later that the Germans had still more infantry and tanks that were due to enter in this area. We figure that my half of the defending force would have been decimated, caught between the flankers and the wedge of pioneers going through the hole made by the Rockets.

Jim and I thought we were killing Germans at a good pace, maintaining a nearly 1 for 1 exchange ratio (and better than 1 to 1 leader kill ratio) but there were so many Germans this last time, its incredible.
