Alcohol has been a social lubricant for centuries. A source of uninhibition and feelings of euphoria. But why is it illegal in some countries, cultures, religions, and even once prohibited in the United States?

Liver Disease - Some drinkers develop hepatitis, or inflammation of the liver. Symptoms are: Fever. Yellowing of the skin, eyeballs and urine('jaundice'). and Pain in the abdomen. Another affect on the liver is 'cirrhosis', scarring of the liver. This prevents the liver from filtering out the waste from the body and can lead to death. It is impossible to reverse the damage done to the liver by cirrhosis.
Digestive Problems - Heavy drinkers are prone to excessive heartburn, ulcers, and bleeding in the digestive system. The pancreas also also may get inflamed and extremely painful. This is known as 'pancreatitis'. The pancreas helps regulate the amount of blood sugar by making insulin. As a result drinkers can develop diabetes, or death.
Sex - In MEN: Direct harm to the testes, causing reduced testosterone levels. This may contribute to a 'feminization', or man boobies. In WOMEN: Irregular menstruation and increased risk of spontaneous abortions. All the above medical problems also progress quicker in women than in men. Also women are at greater risk of breast cancer. For both Men and Women, cancer of the colon and the rectum.
