This mercenary unit started out as Dark Night Interstellar Shipping, a shipping business that was doing just fine before its president and owner died of a heart attack.
The owner's son inherited the business, but being a warrior who was recently retired from the Federated Commonwealth's military, he was not at all familiar with the business of interstellar shipping. After a year of trying to keep the business afloat, Richard Henderson decided to try and make a living the only way he knew how, in battle.
He liquidated most of the company's assets, saving a Tramp class Jumpship, two smaller dropships, and a small group of old defensive 'mechs for his new endeavor. Dark Night Interstellar Shipping became Henderson's Dark Knights, the name kept out of respect for his father's life work.
With a passion for battle in the heavily disputed Chaos March of the Federated Commonwealth, he quickly set off to Outreach, Mercenary Hiring Capitol of the Universe, to staff his specialized company.
The command staff and Mechwarrior of the Knights all gathered together on Outreach and had a strategy/command evaluation simulation using the Wolf's Dragoons impressive facilities. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it wasn't good either. Some of the warriors, having been out of the action for many months, took the sim as a joke, not a true test of skill. Some were forced to use 'Mech variants they had never used before, and some were simply cut out of it because of the lack of technology to allow them to participate. The purpose of the sim did, however, come through and the lance commanders were assigned.
The Dark Knights met their first action on a seemingly standard contract to protect the planet Innova in the Chaos March. The first raid however proved to be particularily brutal, the Knights lost three 'Mechs (two in battle and one to sabotage) and a squad a jump infantry. They were not disswayed by this outcome and still battle hard, finding victory no matter the circumstance. A more detailed description of this contract will become available soon, after the contract has been fulfilled and all inteligence barriers have been removed.
