The Yankees revived baseball for many New Yorkers especailly during one of there championship droughts. The resurrengence was lead by the purchase in 1973 by George Steinbrenner and his proclaimation to give New York a championship. He wanted to bring back the mistic and restore them to there winning ways. Prior to his purchase CBS had owned the Yankees and there last playoff game was in 1964. Steinbrenner rebuild the Yankees and the team made the playoffs in the 1976. The Yankees had endured a 12 year period of not making the playoffs or world series.
