Be they mystical, military, or just plain mad, these misfits and masterminds have been thorns in
the sides of the members of the Empire Club. Beware before you enter. As a wise man once
said, "Never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy!"
Quite possibly the worst pharaoh in Egypt's history, Orthos-Ra is said to have gone mad and
killed his own unborn son to prevent him from taking the throne. The "Mad Mummy" was also
considered a source of great magical power and was coveted by Professor Wo-Feng. Young Prince Farouk agreed to steal the corpse of the
deranged ruler in exchange for Feng's assurance that Farouk would rule Egypt for decades. What
Farouk didn't know was that Ra was alive, and coerced his descendant into doing his
bidding.
He claimed to be thousands of years old. He had the loyalty of the few remaining Mongol tribes.
He was one of the seven erlkonigs, powerful psychics who collectively rule over the occult
community. Taking as his symbol the phoenix, Professor Wo-Feng was involved in a new
crusade, to prevent the start of World War II, or, failing that, stop the development of the atom
bomb. He had taken an uncommon interest in Cara
Al-Moud, calling her "little sister" and protecting her from others of his ilk until he went
mad and was consumed by his own magic.
Simeon Schrek hated being denied his position as one of the world's premier big game hunters.
One day, when hunting the "Ghost Tiger" of India with Sir Heathcliffe Merryweather, he let that hatred
lead to his downfall. He was mauled by the very same tiger he dared to pursue, and ended up a
bitter, twisted man. Spying for the Nazis, he tried to frame Benedict Grey for murder. Later, he was recruited
by Italian mystic Professor Benito Ozymandius as an aide
in his war against Professor Wo-Feng. He was killed by
Wo-Feng and resurrected by Dr. Tabar Mahatra under the orders
of Professor Ozymandius. Schrek finally double-crossed Ozymandius by attempting to seize the
Dagger of Rukh-al-Diin for himself so that he could launch an attack against Wo-Feng with the
aid of Mahatra and an army of Janissaries.
This uber-Nazi was the gestapo officer assigned to help Simeon
Schrek break up Dr. Reiner Verletz's spy ring.
Major Steinholtz participated in the plot to frame and recruit Benedict Grey to the Nazi think-tank, code-named
Operation Valhalla. Steinholtz's orders changed, however, when Professor Ozymandius demanded he pick up a member of Rostov Dracul's gypsy band for him to present at the
nefarious, mystic cabal known as the Black Lodge. Before he knew it, Cara Al-Moud and Sir Heathcliffe Merryweather brought his
dreams of rising in the ranks of the S.S. crashing down around him when they helped Benedict
escape.
A master of the illusionary arts, Professor Ozymandius is one of the seven erlkonigs that rule the
world from the shadows. He is the Axis' foremost expert on the occult, and is constantly
scheming to increase his own power base through his association with Chancellor Adolf Hitler of
Germany. His attempt to recruit the members of the Black Lodge into Axis service led him to
kidnap Wilhelm Lipschutz, bringing the Professor
into conflict with Cara Al-Moud, a Salumbari whose
own psychic potential makes her a threat to the Lodge, and with his fellow erlkonig, Professor Wo-Feng. Ozymandius' greatest mistake
was ordering his lackey Tabar Mahatra to revive the dead Simeon Schrek, who, made delusional by his journey beyond the veil
of death and back, double crossed the erlkonig and tried to launch an assault of Wo-Feng's Phoenix Palace himself!
Dr. Mahatra wanted nothing more than power power over others, power over resources, even
power over life and death. That is what led this Oxford-trained doctor to the unholy Thuggee
sects of his home country of India, and a method for raising the dead unheard of in the West.
That same thirst for power led him to offer his services to Professor Ozymandius in the erlkonig's war against Wo-Feng. Mahatra's creations include the horrific beast men that
nearly crippled Max Galahad and Benedict Grey, as well as the Handmaidens of Kali,
women with multiple limbs a la the Hindu goddess of death. Mahatra's worst sin might have
been the resurrection of big game hunter Simeon Schrek, who is
now convinced he is the avatar of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction.
The source of the greatest vampire legend of all, this undead erlkonig almost killed all of the
members of the Empire Club party. In a desperate attempt to bargain for the lives of her
companions, Juliet DuPont made a promise to be his
bride, which backfired when Max Galahad and Benedict Grey "objected to the wedding." With his
dying breath, Tepes cursed Juliet, declaring a blood hunt. Now all the vampires of the world and
the descendants of the Dracul line must kill the Crimson Wraith, including her friend Rostov Dracul. As with all undead, there is no guarantee
that Lord Dracula will stay in his coffin . . .
Southern belles Magnolia, Lily, and Rose Grey were their daddy's girls; the fact that daddy was a
raging lunatic who felt that Texas was being occupied by a foreign power never bothered them.
Traumatized by the rift between their father and brother, Benedict Grey, the sisters became sociopathic
hedonists in the employ of nearly every villainous superpower across the globe. They have
utilized the advanced technology at their disposal to build a weird criminal empire founded more
or a need for kicks than anything else. Magnolia is convinced that the three will reclaim the
Cross of Santa Anna, a family heirloom presently in the possession of Juliet DuPont.
One of Wo-Feng's sons, Hugala Khan served as one of the
generals of the Phoenix Horde. Sent by Feng to kill the allies of the Empire Club, Khan entered
into a deal with Italian mystic Professor Ozymandius to
capture Alistair Smith-Smythe and Sammy Palermo. His attempts to uncover the Gordian
Knot before Indiana Jones could excavate it were thwarted by a well-placed halberd thrown by
Benedict Grey, smashing his power-mad dreams
of wresting the throne of the mystical realm from his father.
The entire measure of Lord Hollingsly-Smythe's self-worth was gauged by how successfully he
managed to outdo the feats of Lord
Merryweather. No adventure was ever his own, for wherever Lord Merryweather hunted,
Lord Hollingsly-Smythe was never far behind. The lesser in terms of skill and experience, Lord
Hollingsly-Smythe's only edge was that he was utterly unscrupulous, to the point of being
downright evil. Eventually, his obsession with competing with Lord Merryweather drove him
mad, and, on his last expedition to find the Great White Tiger, Lord Hollingsly-Smythe decided
to hunt Lord Merryweather instead! But for the miraculous intervention of the fabled beast of
legend, Lord Merryweather's head might have been mounted on Lord Hollingsly-Smythe's
wall.
Boss of a powerful Chinese Tong family, Fat Man Wu was willing to do anything to eliminate
his underworld rival, Jimmy Sung, even if it meant allying with the Japanese Empire or the
self-proclaimed "Third Reich" of Germany. When Wu set a watery trap for Sung in a secret
cavern on an uncharted island deep within the Japanese protectorate, the heroes of the Empire
Club, aided by Mr. Darvy and the crew of The Jade
Nile, turned the tables on Wu, immolating him in the very trap he had set for his mortal enemy,
and destroying his island and the high-tech arsenal he had secreted thereon.
A mad scientist from ancient Atlantis who built a time machine powered by volcanic energy and
destroyed his home continent by propelling himself into the 20th Century. Through his
carelessness, Atlantean technology fell into the hands of the infamous Grey sisters, who used the secrets to advance their empire of weapons
manufacturing and sell their high-tech products to the dark forces growing in Europe and Asia.
The Empire Club's Atlantean ally, Dr. Xan, used Gaius
Appellius' time machine against him to jettison the villain into null space. As for whether he will
return . . . only time will tell!
This six-armed space alien served Emperor Halcius, of the Nexian
Galactic Empire, as His Royal Majesty's First Subject until the heroes of The Empire Club, lost
in an alien rocket ship acquired by the United States Navy, wandered into Nexian space. When
Rahl brought the heroes before Emperor Halcius, Cara Al-
Moud, using her psychic mind-control abilities, turned a group of armed guards on the
Emperor and mortally wounded him as he sat on his own throne. The killing blow, however,
was delivered by Lord Chamberlain Rahl, who instantly declared himself the new
Emperor.
Once Prime General of the Nexian Militia, this six-armed space alien abducted and imprisoned
Dr. Zeron, the greatest scientist of his planetary system,
and used Zeron's technology to his own advantage, to conquer the galaxy. Before long, Prime
General Halcius declared himself Galactic Emperor and became obsessed with expanding the
bounds of his dominion. Having dominated countless alien races, Halcius turned his sights
toward Earth's solar system, but was assassinated by his own, trusted First Subject, Lord Chamberlain Rahl, in a bid for the throne.
