Sign-up Date Extended
I have just been informed that the Tournament sign-up dates have been
extended until Tuesday, June 23 at 12 midnight PST. This should give everyone more
time to form a 4 person squad.
Remember, SPREAD THE WORD!
The more teams that enter the Tournament, the more fun for everyone!
So far, I have only received 2 requests for the
"Team Members Wanted" page. If you
are looking to for teammates, be sure to check it out.
The ZONE Page
The Outwars ZONE
Tournament page has been fixed. It now has
the latest sign-up information, dates and rules.
The ZONE Tournament
You might have noticed that the web pages on the
Zone DO NOT have the correct links to the Tournament signup page. I have already
talked to MS about this. Until this is corrected, it will be up to YOU and the other
ZONE players to spread the word regarding how to sign-up.
Anytime you play an online game, ask if the
other players are signed-up for the tournament, if not, make sure they know where to go to
do so. http://www.microsoft.com/games/outwars/on_the_zone.htm
The Sign-up Screen
The tournament sign-up page now has a link to the
"Team Members Wanted" page.
Hopefully this will attract more players who want to enter the tournament, but don't
have/know another 3 players.
Page updates
I have updated the links page. It now has
several links to reviews of the game. I have also added links to all of the Outwars
Clans that I am aware of. If you want your clan added to the page, send me your clan name and web address.
I have also updated the polls page with some
more results. More coming soon!
Outwars Tournament
The signup page is now open.
You can also read
the full rules for the tournament. Get your four player team ready!!!
Looking for some team members
I am creating a "Team Members Wanted" page. If you are
looking for some teammates, e-mail me with your
name, e-mail, time zone, internet connection type (28.8, isdn, cable etc). I will add your
name to the list, so that others may contact you. Please place "teammates"
on the subject line.
Once you have a team, e-mail me with your team
member names, and I will remove you/them from the list of players.
Outwars Tournament
The planning is complete. Get ready to
rumble!!!!!
Signup will start on Thursday, June 11th and last until the 18th.
The signup page will be at http://www.zonefun.com/outwars. Note, this page will not
be active until the 11th.
The actual tournament will take place from June
24, through the 26th at which point the winning team will get to teach a SingleTrac team
how to play the game :)
The format for this double elimination tournament, will be team war (four person squads) with everything available
(suits, weapons, mines, player Ids, regeneration, pickup regeneration, etc). Matches
will last 15 minutes with the highest scoring team declared the winner at the end of the
allotted time period.
The default tournament map is dead2m, but if both sides
agree, alternate maps may be played.
So get practicing!!!
GameSpot
GameSpot now has a full review of the game. They gave
the game a rating of 7.8 out of 10. Read the review here.
Page layout
I have been trying some different fonts in an attempt
to make these pages more readable. E-mail me
if you have any trouble reading this post. I will be converting the other pages over time.
Outwars Tournament
Microsoft is planning an Outwars tournament on the
Zone. The tournament will be open to anyone with a 4 person team. Most
of the Outwars Fan web-sites will also be entering teams (including this site). The
winners of the tournament will have the opportunity to battle a team of Outwars developers
from SingleTrac. The details are still being worked out, so keep checking back for
more information.
Details (subject to change)
The tournament will be a Team War between squads of
four with a tech level of 4 (all suits, all weapons, all mines allowed). Player regen,
pickup regen, tracker and target ID's will all be active. The team that reaches 200 points
first, wins the match.
Signup will be held on the Zone form June 1st
to the 14th with the actual tournament somewhere between June 16th to the 19th.
Attention Beta Testers
Microsoft has finally shipped the full version. I
received my copy today at 2:00pm. (It is the same version as in the stores, NOT a special
signed copy as we had been told to expect.)
I apologize for the recent lack of updates. Since I
did not have the full version, I had been losing interest in the game. Now that I have the
full version, watch for more regular updates.
Microsoft finally advertising Outwars
Microsoft has finally started to promote the game.
They have ads in this months (May) PC Gamer and in Computer Gaming World. Maybe the game
will get a sales boost, and we might see more people in the IGZ.
Weapons page updated
The weapons page now includes a description of the
pickups available for each weapon. I have also added a chart for a quick comparison of the
weapon types.
Strategy tips
I have received and posted several strategy tips.
Special thanks to Sgt. L0cutus for his
fantastic tips on the usefulness of mines.
Poll results
I have posted the current results from the
Multi-player poll. Keep checking for the results from the other two polls.
Demo cheats
Have you been noticing other players using armor and
weapons that you don't have access to? Then you had better check out the cheats on the
strategies page.
Outwars in top spot at Gamespot
This just came in from Gamespot "Last week, our ftp servers were brought
to their knees by rabid fans of Microsoft's Outwars, the all-new action game that debuted
on GameSpot last week. It becomes the first game ever to debut at the number one slot on
our Top Five demo list."
Strategy update
You can now submit
your strategy tips.
The full version is in the stores
Electronics Boutique
now has the full retail version in stock. They are also offering a $10.00 mail in rebate
until April 30!! Get the rebate form here.
Strategy update
I have started to work on the strategy page. I will be
updating it over the next few days. I am making the page available "as is" while
I work on it. Keep checking for updates. I will also be adding the ability for you to
submit hints or tips.
Multi-player Taunts
Many players are unaware of the ability to send taunts
(pre-set voice messages), to other players. Check the Multi-player page for instructions
on how to use and modify this feature.
The demo is out
The demo has been released. Check the Files page for downloading locations. The demo is a
"little" limited, but is still REALLY fun and well worth the download time! The
demo includes the following:
- Two single-player missions
- One on-line battleground with 'Free for All' and
'Capture the Flag'
- Two rifles
- No gliders
- Two battlesuits
From the action in the IGZ, people really seem to
like the game. Send me your Comments.
Two new polls
I have added two new polls.
One for the demo version and one regarding squad/team based competition. Take some time
and let me know what you think. I need your input. I can only add new features if I know
you want them!!!
New Site Name
"Outwars CDF Central" is the new name for
this site. I have updated the pages with the new name, and have added several new pages in
preparation of the Demo.
Demo Download
The Outwars team has entered into an exclusive
agreement with Gamespot. Gamespot has been drafted
into service as the official online source for the upcoming trial version of Outwars.
Starting Friday, April 10, this is where to the demo
version.
The demo will include both single and multi-player
features.
Site Problems
I have been experiencing problems with the online poll
and the guest book. I apologise for any inconvenience these problems may have
caused.
These items should now be working properly.
Cast your vote at the Polls
Now you can have your say. Each week you will be asked
a question about the game.
Trial version release date
Microsoft announced today that the trial version of
Outwars will be available for download beginning April 10.
The Outwars trial version will include both single
and multiplayer functionality and a variety of gameplay missions. In the single player
missions, the player will strap on a jetpack and engage in fierce aerial duels on planets
Anubis and Oasis. In multiplayer, the gamer will have both the glider wing and jetpack at
his disposal to ward off human opponents with a full arsenal of weapons. In addition,
players will be able to choose multi-player games of either Free for All (Deathmatch) or
Capture the Flag.
Players will be able to use the trial version to
wage battles against one another, for free, over the Internet Gaming Zone, at http://www.zone.com.
Retail version release date
Microsoft also confirmed that Outwars has been
released to manufacturing and will arrive in stores no later than April
30, 1998.
First update of this site
This is the first update to this page. Not much here,
just the page skeletons. I hope to add new pages as I finish them.
Please sign the guest book, and let me know what
you like/dislike about the site. It is still in the early design stage, so any and all
ideas are welcome.
