You are not like Cerberus, three gentlemen at once, are you?
-Richard Brinsley Sheridan, The Rivals
Some are born homid, of human parents and human hungers, ignorant of the
blessing and the curse they bear. They lack spirit but excel at cleverness.
Others, the lupus, are born of wolf, pure and wild, yet fettered by the forest. They know not the
ways of man, and this often proves their undoing. Those of the cursed breed, metis,
bear the stamp of shame, the deformity that marks them as the issue of a union
never meant to be. Though they stand at the crossroads of our people, they are shunned
before the Mother's grace.
-Bessa Sings-in-the-Mist, Children of Gaia Gilliard.
Homid:
Homid are Garou born of human mothers
and Garou fathers, or human fathers and Garou mothers. In the former case,
they are left with the mother and then snatched away by the tribe once they
experience the First Change. This usually happens at the age of 16 or so. In the case
of a Garou mother, the baby is left with some human Kinfolk who are related to
the Garou but whose Garou genes are inert. The child is then returned once the
First Change occurs.
Homid Garou are quick-witted and knowledgable. Among the Shadow Lords, they are
known to infiltrate corporations and manipulate human society. They are especially
powerful among the corporate Japanese zaibatsu. Like all Homids,
they are relatively technically adept, though they are unable to contact
techno-spirits.
I take my fear, my humiliation
I crush it in my fist,
I open my hand,
I've got a diamond.
My diamond is Rage.
I've got diamonds in my eyes.
-Rollins Band, "Just Like You".
Metis:
The first law of the Garou reads Garou shall not
mate with Garou. However, Garou are creatures of passion and emotion, and
such unions have occurred. The result of this is a metis. Metis are born in the
powerful Crinos battle-form, and can assume it most easily. They also are born
deformed or insane. These deformities can range from an improperly shaped tail,
hairlessness, and fragile claws to all sorts of insanity. Metis are also sterile.
Many Garou view metis with suspicion. Metis have greater knowledge of Garou
society than do the other two breeds, for they are born into it. Most Metis stay
in Garou society rather than flee oppression because they have no place in human or
wolf society. Among the Garou, they at least have a place, however low it is. Many
metis are filled with hate and take their Rage out on anyone and anything they can justify
killing. Some few metis, however, possess a great empathy born from having themselves
suffered. Such metis are truly tragic, for they give boundless sympathy and
recieve endless venom. The path of the Metis is indeed long and hard.
Metis among the Shadow Lords are treated much like they are in all tribes.
Unlike other tribes, however, the Shadow Lords often send their metis off on the
most dangerous of missions, so as to preserve their "pure" Garou. Most metis
thus die at a young age. Those that survive, however, are as strong and as angry as
possible and are often the most powerful Garou in their septs.
So seek the wolf in thyself
Shape Shift nose to the wind
Shape Shift feeling I've been
Move swift all senses clean
Earth's gift
Back to the meaning of wolf and man
-Metallica, "Of Wolf and Man".
Lupus:
Lupus Garou are born of a union between a wolf and a Garou.
They spend their formative years among wolves, but are often the loners of their
pack, and feel they are soemwhat different. When the reach the First Change, they
are whisked away by the Garou of their tribe and inducted into the world of
the Garou. They are the most attuned to Gaia, and thus can call upon the spirit
power more easily and more frequently. They have very little knowledge of human ways,
however, and such abilities as driving are alien to them.
The lupus of the Shadow Lords are very much the sterotype of the tribe. The only
thing that makes them different (aside form the obvious) is their close relationship
with the Red Talons. They are in fact trying to manipulate the Talons, for Lupus
Garou are the only werewolves tolerated by that violently genocidal tribe.
