Pinball Game Page
This is now my fourth game page on my home page. Sorry it took so long before it appeared. My Homepage has really been in need of some new stuff. Anyway, I got the idea for this page after wasting quite a bit of money playing pinball to death at my local arcade. A bit annoyed at myself, I decided to play David's Midnight Magic on my C64 - I am now cured.
DOWNLOAD Pinball Construction Set
This Construction set was raved about at the time of its release (c. 1983), and after using it, it's not hard to see why, even today. Good pinball games never age, like say, Space Invaders has. Anyone who has ever wanted to create their own pinball machine now has their chance to do so. It's very easy to use, as it's a "Point and Click" environment driven thing. You can place pinball objects anywhere on the field with the hand, pull the sides of the cabinet out with the pliers, hammer sides in with the hammer, adjust scores, bonuses and sound effects with the screwdriver, add graphics to the cabinet, play with the tilt and gravity of the cabinet, adjust the kick of the flippers, test play a machine, or just load one of the five demo games on disk (Just load DEMO1 for demo 1 or DEMO5 for demo 5 etc.) And once you've finished making a game, you can save it out as a stand alone program.
I would like to see a good Pinball Construction set on the PC, where you could even add overhead tubes and ramps, pop-up targets, and back-screen games you find on newer pinball machines. They are the only things lacking in PCS.
If you need the documentation for Pinball Construction Set, it isn't yet available at Project 64 unfortunately (But they do have the manual, they just haven't typed it yet!).
PS. You'll need full 1541 emulation to load the program.

- David's Midnight Magic - This is without a doubt the best pinball game on the Commodore 64. It remains faithful to the Apple ][ game of the same name (Well, the C64 and Apple had some similarities). Simply speaking, it's the most realistic and playable pinball. You'll need good ball control skills, and there are lots of targets (some quite difficult) to aim for. Use the Shift and Commodore keys to use the flipper, space bar hits the machine, but don't do this too often too quickly or you'll TILT it! The function keys adjust the launcher. H views the highscores, and the ball magnets over the side lanes can be activated with the keys Z-. The leftmost keys active the left magnet and the rightmost keys the right magnet. The highscores on the disk image are some of my highscores. All are genuine (I didn't hack the Highscore file, although it's very easy to do!).
- Advanced Pinball Simulator - This is not a bad pinball game. Like more modern Pinball games, there is a plot and a list of objectives to accomplish in the game. All is explained in-game. Reasonably well written and playable for a while, although I think the machine could have been designed a bit better as there's not much flipper action (which is what I like about pinball!)
- Soccer Pinball - When important World Cup games can't be decided, forget penalty shoot-outs. How about MULTIBALL? I'd like to see more than one ball in play! A soccer theme for a pinball game isn't such a bad idea, but this game isn't that good (and it doesn't have multiball). It's fun still, but it has some big problems. You have to hit all the soccer players off the field and then score 3 goals to go to the next level. Unfortunately, the flipper action is a bit bad. Balls you flip on the bottom flippers tend to fly off on strange angles, plus there's an annoying bouncing sound as the ball gets caught in the bottom lanes. To add injury to insult, there are several bugs in the game where the ball can randomly fly through solid objects and out of the game, just like a ghost.
- Pinball Power - Also known as 3D Pinball, this is a rather well designed and entertaining pinball game. The targets are well placed and there's quite a few targets to aim for to get big points. The perspective can be a bit off-putting, but it's still lots of fun and a lot better than some pinball other games.
- Pinball Wizard - This very ancient pinball game is very simplified, but is still fun in a very simple way. There's not many targets to aim for, but the action is fairly furious for your flippers. Not a bad game by any means, but only lacking in so far as there's not an awful lot to aim for.
- Pinball '64 - Another simple little Pinball game. A bit better than Pinball Wizard, because it has more targets to go for. It's fun and relatively easy, so you can play for quite a while before getting bored.
- Pinball (Ahoy) - This terrible type-in game from Ahoy magazine is a bit of a bad joke really. It's just total junk, but for 8 blocks what did you expect? I just threw it in to fill up some space. It's worth a good laugh really, but it's just no fun at all. You can't even get the ball up into the top layers of the game with the flippers!

Night Mission Pinball - This Commodore classic first appeared in 1982. It still is one of the best Pinball games for the C64. The beauty of this game lay in the playability and availability of targets to aim for. Also was the special FIX feature. When on attract mode, you pressed the keys F-I-X and you entered the game control panel, where you could adjust the machine's physics, scores, modes etc.
Time Scanner - Time Scanner is an ancient pinball game that really isn't very good. The whole thing is keyboard operated (although the keys you use don't come to mind at the moment) the game itself isn't badly designed, but the action is very slow and sluggish - sending you to sleep...zzz.zz.zzzz...
Slamball - Aha! This is a classic little pinball game I've had for years. The main thing of interest in this game is the ball. It's got a smiley face on it! :) Just don't lose it, or the machine will crunch it to bits and it won't be happy anymore! You have to hit all the solid targets to move to the next game level. Also, there are bonus multipliers floating around for you to hit. Have fun!
