Tips & Tricks

General Stuff


Prevent Back Attack: When you are back attacked by the enemy you can automatically turn your characters around by taping the run buttons (L1+R1).
Stamina Refill in Chocobo Race: Any time during the race, hold down the top four buttons, (R1,R2,L1,L2) and your stamina will start to refill. It will give you more time to sprint when you need it most.
Lucky 7777: If you are lucky enough to ever have exactally 7777 HP in battle, that character will go into a berserk rage and deal 7777 damage with each hit to an enemy untill the battle is over. Afterwards, that character's HP will be reduced to 1..

Secret Characters


Yuffie: To get Yuffie, enter any forest after you pass through the Mithril Mines and you'll randomly be attacked by a 'Mystery Ninja'. Defeat her and you'll talk to her giving you a bunch of choices. Do not use the save point or do anything besides answering her questions or she will leave. The correct answers are

"Not interested."
"Petrified."
"Wait a second."
"Thats right"
"Lets hurry on."


Vincent: In the Shinra mansion at Nibelhiem, there is a safe on the top floor. The combination is: Right to 36, Left to 10, Right to 59 then Right to 97. When it opens you'll be attacked by the boss Lost Number and you'll have to defeat it before you can take the stuff inside. After the battle you'll get the Odin Materia and a key. Descent the spiral staircase and into the coffin room. Vincent is in one of the coffins. Talk to him and leave then come back and talk to him and he will join you.

Final Limit Break Manuals


Aeris: You have to get this on disk 1 for it to be of any use. Once you get the buggy, drive into Costa Del Sol and take the ship (with the buggy onboard) back to Junon. Head northeast to the river and cross the water. Head east untill you reach a cave with sleeping man inside. He doesn't talk much, but tells you the number of battles you have faught. When you have battled a number of times where the last two digits are the same (144,155,166, ect.) he will give you an item. Either a Bolt Ring or Mythril. If you don't get the Mythril, just fight 11 more times and try again. Once you have it, continue the game untill you get to Rocket Town. Once you have the Tiny Bronco, head toward Nibelheim and follow the river untill you go across the continent. You'll end up near the Gold Saucer. There will be a small house near the end of the river. Inside there is a man who talks about the keystone, but you can change the subject and interest him in the Mythril you have. In return he'll let you open either a big box or a small box. Choose the small box for the Great Gospel. The big box contains a gold armlet, nice to have, but not worth the trouble you've been through.
Barret: A lady will give it to you in North Corel.
Cait Sith: Does not have one.
Cid: Cid's manual is in one of the chests in the sunken plane.
Cloud: Trade 32,000 battle points at the Golden Saucer.
Red XIII: Open the safe in the Shinra Mansion.
Tifa: Go to Tifa's house in Nibelheim and play this song on her piano. X, Square, Triangle, L1/R1 + Triangle, L1/R1 + Square, X, Square, Triangle, L1/R1 + X, O, X, Square, X. Then press START and search the music sheet to find Tifa's Limit break.
Vincent: Land near the waterfall and use a green, black, or gold chocobo or the submarine to pass the mountain. Then enter the waterfall. (You must have Vincent in your group and this must be done first in disc 2) go forward and it will show Vincent's past. Then leave. Return on disc three and you'll get not only the manual but a weapon for Vincent.
Yuffie: Go to Wutai and enter the tower with yuffie and let yuffie beat all the bosses including her father and you'll get a manual and Leviathan materia.

Rare Items


Unlimited Sources: If you want to max out the stats of your party members, just take the submarine to the sunken Gelnika airplane and morph any of the creatures that lie within. Each one can be morphed into a stat boosting source.
Cursed Ring #1: In Mideel try to open the door in the back of the weapon shop (it will not open). Next go to the shop on the hill with the man on the balcony and search around the area untill you hear a rattling sound. You should find a key. Use the key on the door and it will break. Now the owner will ask what happened so tell the truth and you'll get the ring. It raises all stats, but puts the character under death sentance.
Cursed Ring #2: Steal it from Ultima Weapon during the very first battle with it.
Warrior Bangle: There is only one in the game and the only time you can get it is to steal it from the metal eagle enemy on the train during the Huge Materia quest on Mt. Corel
Tetra-Elemental: There is a small desert island in the south under the Western Continent. Land there with the Highwind or with a gold chocobo. Walk on the sand until you fight a cactuar. Morph him and he becomes a Tetra-Elemental.
Ribbon: In the Northern Cave you'll find an enemy called Master Tonberry in several areas. If you can manage to morph him, he'll become a ribbon. This item prevents all negative status effects.
Full-Cure Materia: The back room of the Cosmo Canyon general store is closed off when you first arrive, but if you return much later in the game you can find an Elixer, a Magic Source, and a Full-Cure Materia.
Contain Materia: Buy the most expensive greens from the Chocobo Sage and talk to the white chocobo following the lady in Mideel. Give it the greens and scratch it behind the ears and it will give you the powerful Contain Materia in return.
Elemental Materia: While your party is being lead by Tifa, and before you search for Cloud, return to Nibelheim and search the piano in Tifa's room. She will say "Cloud played here" and you'll recieve an Elemental Materia.

Other Stuff


Cosmo Canyon Song: You can play the Cosmo Canyon song on Tifa's Piano in Nibelheim. Press Square, Square, Square, X, Square, Circle, Circle, R1 + X, Circle, R1 + Square, R1 + Square, R1 + Square, R1 + X, Circle, R1 + X, R1 + Square, R1 + X, Circle, R1 + X, R1 + Square, Circle, Square, X, Circle, Square, X, Square.
