We thought that we could beat them, we really did, especially with the protection of Da-chao and the mighty warriors in the Pagoda of the Five Gods (I was, and still am, at the top of the pagoda). But, though we were thoroughly mighty, they were conniving bastards, the Shinras were, and they reduced Wutai from a great and mighty force, to…

…a cheesy little resort town. That’s what happened to Wutai, no thanks to those lousy Shinra jerks. If I could get enough materia, then maybe, just maybe, Wutai could be great again, instead of a place where the Turks can go on vacation and get drunk(er).

…a simple, yet mighty resort town. My daughter, Yuffie, has disregarded most of our mighty traditions, and yet she is trying to make Wutai even more mighty. I once made a statement in jest that, if we got enough materia, Wutai would easily be able to trounce any new opposition. Unfortunately, she took me seriously (for once!), and went out on a mission for it. I was against it for a while, but then I thought of all the money I could get for the materia… heh, heh, heh!

So I try to get new materia whenever the opportunity occurs, and with Cloud and company, it looked like my task would be a whole lot easier (how was I supposed to know they weren’t a buncha wussies?!). I was wrong about that, but I learned of their mission to save the planet and obliterate Shinra. When I heard that, I decided that they needed my expertise. If the planet’s trashed, how can Wutai kick major butt again, and, it seemed joining them would be an easy way to avenge Wutai by destroying, to use a phrase most often used by Barret, "them damn Shinra." You see why I want all that materia now? I hope that one day, I get to see Wutai restored to its proper greatness once again.

I haven’t discouraged Yuffie from her quest. If for some reason, it works, there will be much rejoicing. If it doesn’t, I’ll sell the materia, and there will be much rejoicing (from me! =)). Either way, it’s a win-win situation. Though, it would be nice if Wutai was more than a mighty resort town again…
