he atcher ile: icolas
icoas' past is shoruded in mystery. Born in 1200 he lived 32 years before he had his first, and terminal encounter with the supernatural.
t is important for our organization to note that we have no indication towards his mortal family, his last name and his social standing before he became immortal. Despite our diligent work, these details have eluded us so far.
uring his mortal years, he fought under Louis the Eigth and Louis the Ninth, as we can ascertain from casual references to other immortals.
e have in our posession fragmentary manuscripts from 1413 that detail a discussion between Nicolas and Tse-Yi, a japanese immortal. These manuscripts lead to the assumption that Nicolas took part in the Fifth Crusade from 1228 to 1229
n 1232, back in Paris, Nicolas was attacked by one of the Kindred and, in a fit of rage this vampire, whose identity is unknown to us, slew Nicolas.
he next night, Nicolas awoke, unharmed and fully healed to a new life.
e knew the stories about vampires as well as any other person of his time and was dreaded that he might have become one of them. The idea of feeding off the living to prolong his existance offered him nothing but terrible fear.
o he decided to kill himself the only way he was sure to die - by exposing himself ot the last (or first) sunrise of his (un-)life.
he time until sunrise was filled with lamenting his fate, cursing the powers-that-be, the vampire that "made" him and himself.
hen the sun finally came up, he was prepared to die.
o his utter astonishment, the sun did not kill or harm him in any way. Completely confused, he fled into a church to confess his sins. There he met Gerard de Kock, another immortal that became his first mentor.
fter learning the codex of the immortals and traveling through Europe, his mentor decided to betray Nicolas. He had squandered Nicolas' money and now was searching for another newborn immortal to provide him with money. In the ensuing fight, Nicolas killed his mentor. It must be noted that this kill was possible not due to his powress as a fighter but to pure luck.
icolas then traveled south, to Italy and, in 1288, further on to Egypt.
nother passenger of the ship to Egypt was Major Giuseppe da Gama. Wasting no timr, the major called Nicolas to a duel on their first night in Egypt. He perished there.
ver the next decade, Nicolas traveled east. He avoided other immortals, rather running that fighting.
t the turn of the century, he reached Japan where he was imprisoned and tortured as a spy.
is chief interogator during Nicolas' captivity was Tse-Yi Chun, weapons master on the court of one of the local lords. Tse-Yi Chun was intrigued yb his prisoner's ability to heal even the greatest damage within a short while and used this to his full advantage. Upon beginning to discover the secret of Nicolas's powers, he killed the other present interrogators and continued his work alone, unwilling to let this secret fall into the wrong hands.
ne day, about six months after his capture, another house attacked the estate of Tse-Yis lord. During this attack Tse-Yi's life was ended by assassins of the Ninja. He rose rom the deas shortly after and eliminated the threat to his master's life. Thus he was granted a title and a wish.
eeding guidance on his way through time, Tse-Yi turned to Nicolas. He requested the release of the gai-jin into his responsibility and gave Nicolas his freedom, within the borders of his newly won estate.
he next years, Tse-Yi fought a war of anihilation, the proper response to the unsuccessful employ of Ninja, against the rival house. During this war, he came to great fame for his skill and fearlessness.
o propperly display his new standing, Tse-Yi ordered a new katana to be created for him (1305 to 1311)
n 1310, Tse-Yi courted the daughter of this smith and the mariage was set to spring 1312.
Nicolas lived in the samurai's house for some years.
ue to political intrigue, Tse-Yi was led to believe that Nicolas had an affair with his wife (1316). The accusation was only partially true since the affair had taken place during 1308-1309, while Tse-Yi was away to fight.
n a fit of rage, Tse-Yi attacked Nicolas. In the ensuing fight, Nicolas had to kill his friend.
In shame, Tse-Yi's wife comitted suicide and Nicolas had to flee since he still was only free on the responsibility of Tse-Yi. He took Tse-Yi's katana with him, to remember his friend and to always remind him of what he had lost.

fter going to sea for several decades, Nicolas returned to Europe in 1408.
n Rome, an assassin from Sweden, Sven Gustavson tried to kill Nicolas, who was working as a bodyguard at the time. Throughly impressed with the assassin's fighting style, Nicolas took his twin silver short swords as his additional weapons well.
raveling through Europe for some more years, Nicolas returned to Paris in 1490. Bone-weary he now is contend to relax and regain his strength.

Nicolas's relations to other people
Mummies
Nicolas' experience with the mummies is limited to the Raven.
hey met on Nicolas' travels back to Europe in 1390. As far as we could
determine, the Raven was on a mission to disrupt the workings of a cult of Kali when she ran into trouble. Nicolas, who happened to "be in town", ran into her and dispatched of the troublesome cultists
n the following weeks, the repeatedly ran from enemies or hid from them. During this time Nicolas fell in love with that mysterious "mage".
is major problem with her was, and probably still is, that she's working on behalf of some sort of higher authority she refuses to name. These people have forced her to betray his trust several times, leaving him in various precarious situations.
icolas then decided to keep a healthy distance from the Raven. This decision did nnot sit well with him since he feels extremely attracted to her and believes she would not betray him on her own.
Vampires
ran into vampires several times in his life and has always kept a safe distance from them. Since they did not try to kill him in the instances when he was forced to cross their paths, he does not bear them any ill will as a whole.
he vampire that killed him in the first place may be another matter, but he's not run into him until now, so that can not be siad for sure.
icolas is a (for the time) large man with hard but not bulging muscle all over his body. He moves with the fluidity of a long-trained fighter - both armed and unarmed.
is white, shoulder long hair stands out in every crowd and his brown eyes can look at the world with senseless joy and iron-hard determination, both in a matter of an eyeblink.
e never remains stern form more than a couple of minutes. Then he feels compelled to make jokes. This may be due to his night, waiting for the sunrise. As far as we could determine it, this interval of waiting has instilled him with either a mental imballance or a deep joy for life and the drive to make fun of life in all its facetts.
is style fo fighting clearly displays the influence of his various tutors.
n a duel, he uses his katana and behaves chivalrous to the brink of stupidity.
ttacking him in a dark alley, on the other hand, brings out his street-fighter attitude. Then he uses every dirty trick in his repertoire and finishes his opponents with his twin swords.
