The introduction of Training Packages in RMSS was a great idea, enabling any character to gain knowledge in any subject by devoting time, experience and money to it.
Since I do not use RMSS, but deem the Training Package idea to be a major addition to any Rolemaster campaign, I have begun developing my own training packages.
These packages are obtained in a much faster rate than in RMSS (I remember some packages taking more then 100 months to complete) and are designed to be learned instead of the normal training time between levels / sessions.
The characters would then expend a certain amount of DPs and money to obtain a teacher and learn the skills provided in the package.
The various packages are designed to take no more than 18 months the most. These packages should require about 85% of the characters DPs for that level, shorter packages requiring much less time and experience (about 25% to 45% of the total DPs for a given level).
The cost for the Training Packages is subsequently given as a percentage of the total DPs a character has every level.
Due to the different approach the various GMs take to DP distribution, assigning a fixed amount of DPs has proven unpractical in the past.
The average Training Package is designed to take about six months to nine months. This interval may seem long to some GMs and players but considering the time requirements for learning certain skills (refer to RMC V, 5.6), I deem it an appropriate time.
