Tips 'N' Stuff for creating characters

This is the area where I keep the tips and guidelines on creating characters. I decided to separate this from the FAQ because the FAQ was only meant for general questions and answers and I thought that more specific help might be needed in character creation. My friend Kaitlin is the Character Approver (CA). Please send all new character requests to her. Well, here are the tips and guidelines.

These are the current playable character races of Serithor. I do strive for diversity and so, if anyone has any new ideas for character races send them to Kaitlin.

Humans: Humans are very populous throughout Serithor. They are good, all-around fighters and magic-users, although sometimes they are arrogant and a bit self-conscious about the fact that their life-spans are shorter than that of the other races. However they usually are filled with an taste for adventuring unmatched by the other species of Serithor. Humans can use all types of weapons and most magic.

Titans: Titans are powerful creatures that look very much like humans of gigantic proportions, with the muscles to match. Titans are excellent fighters, and not too shabby at magic either, particularly Earth and Ice magics. A Titan's skin is very hard and tough, making it hard to damage. Titans usually live to be about 240, on average. Titans do very well in mountains and rocky areas, though they are highly adaptable, capable of living anywhere. Titans can use nearly all weapons.

Dryads: Dryads are the spirits of trees. They typically live in forests and generally excel at using magic. Dryads particularly excel in Earth, Water, and Air magics. They can also become insubstantial and transparent, passing into objects, especially trees. Dryads are not very strong, and usually stick to weapons like quarterstaffs, if they use weapons at all. A Dryad's affinity with nature enables them all a varying degree of control over flora and fauna, and small animals tend to approach Dryads without fear. Dryads, by their nature, are magical creatures, and have had magic for eternity, as per Illeana's decreee. Incidentally, Dryads are an entirely female species. They are immune to age, though they appear young. Dryads also tend to be naive, but that's not true of all of them.

Chimeras: Chimeras are shapeshifters, illusionists by nature. In its' true form, a chimera appears as a pure-white, softly glowing humanoid with a rainbow of colors shifting over its' features. Usually, Chimeras can be recognized by the odd purple dot on their cheeks that they cannot disguise in any form. However, most people have no idea that the dot is the Chimeras' dead giveaway, so the Chimera's disguise is pretty good. Chimeras are usually jacks-of-all-trades, capable of fighting and a little magic use (especially in Illusion magic), but they usually aren't able to endure heavy exertion. A Chimera can only switch to one form (example: a Chimera can switch between Titan and Chimera forms, but as a result cannot assume the shape of a Human or Dryad). They're not limited to the sentient species only in their choice of selection (example: a Chimera switching to falcon form and back) but again they can only have two forms. Chimeras can use most weapons and generally live to a ripe age of 600, on average.

Qinis: Qini (Qinis, plural) have a generally humanoid appearance, but they are a glowing light-blue in color. Qinis have a strong resemblance to the Chimera species, having been created before the Chimera species by Illeana. The Qinis are excellent magic-users and are a special case in the use of magic. Since their creation, the Qinis have dedicated the entire course of their culture to obtaining knowledge, producing world-famous scholars. A Qini scholar is often the equal of several experts of any other species in one specific area. Because of this devotion to learning, the Qinis have advanced science and technology, and discovered the use of magic before Robert and Illeana granted the use of magic to the other species of Serithor. Qinis have advanced magic use but usually are neutral in most affairs. Qinis are not noted for their strength, but for their vast intellects and their aloof disdain for all other species, except for the Dryads. The Qinis and the Dryads have been friends and allies since their respective species met three millenia ago. Qinis live to be 900 on average, though some live to be 1500. The Qinis have advanced technology and magic (at least on par with modern-day Earth, though without the weaponry).

Cyclopses: Cyclopses resemble Titans except that they are even taller and stronger, and the fact that they have only one eye, set in the middle of their foreheads . Cyclopses are renowned for the sheer physical strength, though they have little to no magic-using capabilities. The Cyclopses are related to the Titans and get along well with them and most of the other species. However, the hostility of the Cyclopses towards the Qinis and the Dryads is legendary. The skin of a Cyclops is like that of a Titan, tough and hard to damage. A Cyclops has an average life-span of 420, and they can use all weapons.

Merpeople: Merpeople are a species that, from the waist up, are human, and they have the fish-scaled tails from the waist down. The colors of the scales vary. Merpeople are capable of transforming their tails into legs so that they can move about on land. Merpeople are surprising good at fighting and thievery, and they have the ability to use magic as well. The Merpeople are a rather mysterious species to most land-dwellers, as they usually live in the oceans of the world. The Merpeople are on peaceful terms with the other species, although they despise Dark Knights. Merpeople usually live to be 2000 years old.

Centaurs: Centaurs are human from the waist up and horse from the waist down. The Centaurs are excellent warriors, but they are usually horrible at magic, and some can't use magic at all. The Centuars have a justly deserved reputation as a warrior species, but there is also another side to these people. They are highly protective and defensive of their family and friends, and will fight to the death to protect those that they love. Centaurs usually live to be 900 or 1000 on average.

Cyberghosts: The Cyberghosts are a rather unique species, insofar as they are not native to Serithor. They were created by the Qini as an experiment in advanced computer science fused with advanced genetics. However, when the Qini felt that they were of no further use, they abandoned the Cyberghosts, cancelling the experiment, or so they thought. However, the Cyberghosts were now sentient and could not be cancelled. The Cyberghosts now have broken away from the Qini and established their own civilization. They hate the Qini and will not have anything to do with them. Cyberghosts are good warriors and susprisingly good magic-users and Light Knights. Cyberghosts are neutral to other species, the circumstances of their creation leading them to be very cautious and distrustful around strangers. Cyberghosts are apparently immune to age, though its' too soon to know for sure.

Leprechauns: Leprechauns are a species that strongly resemble humans, except for the fact that they are very tiny, usually about three feet tall at best. Leprechauns are often mischevious, as they love pranks and practical jokes. Leprechauns are very friendly and outgoing, and also quite mysterious. Legends abound about a vast treasure hidden away by the Leprechauns. This has led to many greedy treasure hunters invading the Leprechauns' space, so they have developed a great (and top-secret) defense system to protect their homeland. The Leprechauns do not make good fighters, but they are excellent at thievery and pretty good at magic as well. Leprechauns usually live to be 1500 on average.

Classes

The following is a list of classes such as fighters or mages. Please remember that these are guidlines for character creation. They aren't set in stone (except where listed). If you have ideas of your own, please feel free to submit them to Kaitlin.

Fighters: Fighters are people who have chosen to go to battle using weapons and armor. Fighters generally have to be strong to wield their weapons, and they are often fast too.

Scholars: Scholars are those whose have dedicated their lives to learning. Usually they specialize in only one area (such as magic usage or nature studies). Scholars aren't usually that strong though there are exceptions. Usually, scholars are Qini, but scholars can come from any species, and are all highly skilled in their chosen fields.

Mages: Mages are those who are capable of using magic. While Light and Dark Knights are capable of magic use, mages are those who have dedicated their lives to magic and its' pursuits. Often mages are not strong, but there are certainly exceptions.

Thieves: Thieves are those who break the law in pursuit of their goals, often stealing from others to achieve their ends. Thieves usually are fast and dexterous, but not overly strong and some of have the use of magic.

Knights: Technically speaking, a knight is a fighter. However, knights usually are far better trained and usually have better weapons and armor. Some knights can use magic, though that is uncommon. Knights usually come from the military or the nobility.

Light Knights: Light Knights are a special class of knights created by Robert. These knights are above a normal knight and they have certain magical powers by Robert. Light Knights generally specialize in Light, Air, and Healing Magics. However, being Light Knights, they are the antithesis of a Dark Knight and the holy energy granted to them by Robert gives them equal magical power to a Dark Knight, although not in the same way.

Dark Knights: Dark Knights, like Light Knights, are above normal knights. Dark Knights have certain magical powers granted to them by Dendilar. Dark Knights generally specialize in Darkness, Fire, and Earth magics. Since they are Dark Knights, they are the antithesis of a Light Knight and their power is equal to that of a Light Knight. The only notable exception to this rule is Nethinicus, the first and most powerful of the Dark Knights.

Technologists: Technologists are those who have mastered advanced technology. Only a Qini can be a technologist, however, as they are the only species with advanced technology. Technologists are highly trained, but being Qini, they do not believe in fighting, so they haven't developed technological weapons. Their technology goes into protective, healing, and information gathering purposes, although they can use their technology to enhance weapons and armor (if they aren't totally disgusted by the thought of helping to advance weapons). Technologists aren't usually that strong or fast, but they are very smart.

Martial Artists: Martial artists are a special class created by Illeana. She had studied the martial arts of her world for many years before the accident. She founded the Kataini, the martial artists, and saw to it that they were trained with her skills. Martial artists spend long years studying their skills, and as a result are fast and strong fighters capable of using many weapons or fighting barehanded.

Swordsmasters: As the title implies, a swordsmaster had spent long years studying and perfecting their mastery of the blade. A swordsmaster is usually dexterous and fast. Depending on their choice of swords, they can prove strong as well. A swordsmaster is usually cunning and sharp-witted.

These are all of the special classes that I've come up with for now. As new classes are created, I'll add them here. E-mail the character approver at katt252@yahoo.com
