You have created a new character, you have chosen a race, and now you want to play in Morisot? Or do you still wonder what race you will choose? Have a careful look at the people in the hall of races. Read their descriptions. perhaps try to ask them questions about the other races. Each race has their advantages and disadvantages. If you don't know what race to choose - just pick a human. As a race, they are quite balanced. Later, when you have found out more about Morisot, you can still decide to have another character with a different race and gender.
Now you are about to enter the world. A world you don't know. Maybe it sounds funny to you, but my advice is: log out with "quit quit". Why that? The first thing you should do is: read, read, read. Read the manual pages, and perhaps a few articles on the OOC board. Try to figure out what it's all about, before you go out into the street.
You don't know what an OOC board is? You don't know how to read an article? You don't know how to read manual pages? In this case, reading is very important. Otherwise, you would not understand anything, stumble into trouble, and perhaps get killed, before you even know what's going on.
OK, I told you to log out. Now log in again. You are in an empty room. The dressing room. Exits lead to: Start, OOC. This is always your start room when you enter Morisot. Here you can get dressed, sort your stuff, and get anything prepared before you enter the MUD. But beware: Never leave a thing in here when you leave. It would simply vanish. Now go OOC.
you type: go oocYou are now in front of the OOC board. This room is not part of the game itself. It's made for discussion about the game. Look at the board.
you type: look at boardA list of headlines will appear, with numbers in front of them. You can read some of them, if you want that. Try it out!
you type: read note 64 on boardAssuming that there is actually a note 64 on that board... just try any number you can see in that list. Uhm... no... please don't write an article now, telling that you are now here, and stuff like that. You can join discussions later, when you have found out more. Just glance at the notes and get the feeling for the people in this MUD. There are lots of things to be found out.
OOC - this means "out of character". Outside the game. IC means "in character" - acting, talking, behaving inside the game. Morisot is a roleplaying MUD. We behave like actors on a virtual stage. Good guys, bad guys (and girls, of course...), tales of mystery and imagination. We make up a collective illusion. And that's why we divide several things in two parts: IC and OOC. IC is anything our characters do in this world: smiling, growling, talking, helping, attacking... OOC is the exception: Talking in the OOC room, talking with the @say command, writing notes on the OOC board. Please keep this in mind, and do not mix IC and OOC matters.
What the heck is that - the @say command? Well, lets look at an example: I want to tell someone that I am hungry and want to get myself something to eat. But it's really me, who is hungry, and not my character Gelfling.
I type: @say Boah, I'm hungry. Gonna get me some cookies. AFK.Now let's have a look at the manual pages. The others will see:
[OOC] Gelfling: Boah, I'm hungry. Gonna get me some cookies. AFK.
you type: help
Read the manual page. You will see lots of commands on them. Pick one of them. Perhaps the "say" command:
you type: help say
Read it. At the bottom on the manual page, you will find a list of related topics. Pick some of them, or perhaps, try them out. (be careful with emotes and agressive commands towards livings...)
At least you will need to read help pages about say, ask, language, introduce, remember, look, take, drop, wear, remove, gline, attack, alias, join, leave, eat, drink, emotes and money.
And perhaps you might like to try this:
type: help commands
It gives you a list of all commands known in Morisot! But some of them may not work (yet)...
