Rules for Mortals

To make this mud enjoyable for everyone, it's important
that every player follow a few simple rules of courtesy.
Basically, these are the same that people expect you to
follow in real life: use your common sense, and act like a
civilized, reasonable human being. However, some remarks
should perhaps be made as to how these principles apply to
muds in particular.

-- First, try to stay IC, or `in character', as much
as possible. That is, act like your character would, not as
you would act yourself. For example, your character doesn't
know anything about computers, roleplaying games, or the
difference between players and computer-driven characters;
so please don't have him talk as if he did. Sticking to the
role you have chosen for your character, and separating it
from your own personality, is the heart of all role-playing;
try to adhere to this as much as you can. If you absolutely
have to say something as yourself rather than your
character, use the `@say' command instead of the normal
`say'; this will mark whatever you say as OOC, or `out of
character'.

-- Never abuse, threaten, or harass other players.
Your _character_ may well get angry at another character's
actions, but don't use this as an excuse to insult the other
character's _player_. If you're making OOC remarks that the
other player is obviously uncomfortable with, stop it.
Before you do something, think about how this will affect
other players; this mud is supposed to be fun for everyone,
not just you. Don't misunderstand this; we're not asking
everyone to play their characters as smiling, friendly
goody-two-shoes. A convincingly evil character can be just
as much fun, and we're not even preventing you from killing
another player's character if it's consistent with your own
character's personality. [Of course, your character will
then be a murderer and be treated as such, but you as the
player won't automatically suffer.] But if you're being
constantly rude to _players_, or playing a frenzied
newbie-killer just to annoy everyone, this is a good way to
get thrown out of the mud. Basically, we're again asking you
to separate IC from OOC [the difference should hopefully be
clear by now].

-- As far as the mud's own `political correctness' is
concerned, here's a little disclaimer (first off, an npc is
a Non-Player Character, played by the computer):
If an npc seems to have discriminating prejudices (racial,
sexual, religious or whatever), these are entirely IC and do
_not_ represent our OOC opinions.
For example: If some stupid npc tells you in best medieval
fashion that women are meant to do the household chores and
raise the kids while men go hunting and fighting, that's
obviously not what the mud coders think. (They generally
think that the household chores should be done by the pizza
service...) And if an npc tells you that hobbits are scum,
it doesn't mean that we don't like hobbit characters or
their players. It just means that IC, this npc hates
hobbits.
However, if you think that an npc acts in a way which could
insult players OOC, please tell a wizard and we will try to
change that.

-- This is an english-speaking mud, so please use
english as well. Morisot is situated in Germany, and many
players you meet will be german as well, but unless you're
sure that _everyone_ in the same room with you understands
german, please talk in english. If you managed to read
everything up to this point, you shouldn't have to worry
about your english being good enough for the challenge. :-)
