stats

Last updated on Thu Oct 1 in 1998

Your character's stats are her basic physical and mental
characteristics. There are six different stats:

    strength (physical force)
    dexterity (speed, agility, and coordination)
constitution (physical toughness, resistance to wounds)
    intelligence (logic and memory)
    wisdom (insight and intuition)
    discipline (mental toughness and willpower)

Each of these stats has some effect on a different part of
the game; for example, your character's constitution
determines how often you can be hit before being seriously
wounded, while your discipline influences how good you are
at resisting magical influence as well as casting magical
spells yourself, and so on. You start with stats that are
more or less typical for the race of your character. As your
character advances in her adventuring career, her stats will
improve to reflect her increasing experience and training.
The computer uses numbers as stat values, but you will never
get to see them exactly. (If you do, it's a bug.) As in real
life, your character has only a very general idea of how
strong or smart she is in comparison to others; therefore
the computer gives you only verbal descriptions, such as
`weak' or `brilliant'. To see them, use the command
`vitals'.
