Description/Image:
Standing before you is Laenya, the cat elf. Her eyes are leaf-green, rimmed by thick black lashes and under high arching brows. Her skin is a darkly tanned color, contrasting her eyes drastically. Standing about 3'8", she carries herself with sure-footed grace. Long black hair stops at her mid-back, kept out of her face only by a simple leather band going around her forehead. Poking out of her hair are a pair of curving elfin ears, that taper to a gentle point. Around her neck hang a couple of teeth of various sizes, strung on a thin leather cord. Her attire is quite simple and scant; A tan vest stops at her torso to reveal a toned, flat stomach. About her waist is a small sheath, holding a stone dagger. A short brown skirt stops at mid thigh, amazingly managing not to bare too much skin. Her feet are bare and dusty, accented slightly by a beaded bracelet around her ankle. Her body is slim and muscular, with a long torso and squared shoulders. As she sees you looking at her, her angular chin raises slightly to regard you.
Background:
Laenya's life has been one of change; Seemingly constant change, almost like the restless seasons. She was born to Jennar and Yana of the CatElf tribe, with Akira as her older brother, and therefore, role model. Her childhood was a normal one, filled with playing games, learning skills, and growing up. The change didn't start until her 14th turn. It was night, and no one heard the humans coming...her parents were both killed in the scuffle, while trying to protect their kits. Laenya was taken captive and surprisingly kept alive, for reasons that even she herself couldn't understand. (Akira was snuggled so far down in his furs that the humans didn't even see him.)
The humans brought the young elf back to their village, and threw her into an empty hut, placing a huge man to guard the entrance, and therefore, the exit. Laenya had heard tales of the five-fingered ones, and didn't want to stick around to see what they would do to her. She started thinking of a way to escape, when the loud snores of the guard reached her ears. Grinning at her luck, she carefully poked her head out, seeing one sleeping guard, and a clear path through the shadows away from the village. Using what sneaking skills she had learned in her life so far, she managed to escape, making a momentary stop to steal some of their dried meat, and a spear.
However, what greeted her outside of the village was...indescribable. The jungle she hoped to see was not there, only long expanses of waving grasses, stretching as far as the eye could see. How far had the humans taken her, and which way was the way home?? She searched for a long time, but seemed to find nothing but more grasslands. She learned to live on her own, and soon concentrated more on surviving than finding her tribe. More than once, she would see other elves, traveling across the plains which she now considered her territory (She knew it like the back of her hand.). But she would hide herself from them, distrustful of all at this point in time.
When Laenya was 100 turns, many seasons after she had been gone, she was wandering across the grasslands at night, looking for a herd of deer that she had been tracking. Upon crossing one hillock, the tracking was forgotten...as she discovered the edge of the jungle. Her jungle! And her life changed again, in that one instant. She looked for only one day before she found her tribe again, and was reunited joyfully with her brother, her only living family.
She has now been back with the tribe for 5 turns. After so many seasons of being alone, her voice is harsh with mis-use. After all, who was she to have talked to all alone on the plains? Therefore, her preferred method of communication is sending, although she is so aloof now that she rarely communicates at all, spoken or non. Old habits die hard, so she still lives by herself, in her own cave away from the rest of the tribe. Living for so long without other elves seemed to bring out an uncommon sense of kinship with other animals. She communicates with her bond panther, Sashe, better than most do. So her life has become calm and whole again, but another change may yet send her life in a different direction.
