Marian

Marian was born in a small village, on the southeasterly coast of Barsaive. During her childhood, she grew up under the guidance of her adoptive mother who was a witch. Curious of the ways of her only parental figure, Marian sought out to obtain the means of sorcery. For hours at a time, she would follow her 'mother' around, constantly on her heels, hoping to imitate, that which allured her.

Eventually, through the course of her youth, Marian picked up the arts of illusion, and was the spectacle of all the children, with her flambouyant displays of spellcraft. She would conjure up small birds to follow her around, and perform many disappearing tricks, much to the surprise of any onlookers.

But one fateful day, her villiage was taken by the therans. A caravan of the slave folk rampaged her town, leaving nothing but ruins, and taking the women and children as their own. Marian, being strong in ego, fought endlessly with the slave owner to whom she was sold. But always, the slavers whip would quiet her rebellion. She developed a hatred for men also, as her slave-master would 'lend' her out, to all that took a fancy to her fiery nature.

When her master went out one day, Marian somehow managed to work her way out of her chains. She grabbed the very whip the slaver would use to flog her, and waited in the dark for the Theran to return. As she watched him enter the doorway to the barn, where she lay waiting, she watched with satisfaction, the horror in his eyes, when he saw the empty shackles glistening in the sunlight.

Many years of observation taught her how to use the whip, and she beat him well and truly. In a macaabre ritual, Marian let him suffer for three days, hanging from the barn in the full sun. She came to flog him tirelessly, until at last her revenge was complete. Taking the whip in her hands, she dresses in a robe she had found in the masters closet, and fled Thera forever.
