Panther and Tiger tanks, they saw little combat as only 200 had arrived
in Europe by the wars end. The Driver and the Radio Operator each have

hatch on the top of the turret and there is a cupola for the Commander
on the top of the turret. It is not NBC sealed.

M4 (Medium Tank): The M4 Sherman was introduced in 1942 to replace the
M3 Grant. More Shermans were produced than any other tank in World War
2. There were many variants of the basic model many based on the engine
package. The M4, M4A1 and M4A4 had gasoline engines while the M4A2 had a diesel engine. The M4A4 had a slightly longer hull due to a longer
engine. The M4A1 had a cast armor hull giving it a more rounded
appearance. The British used many Shermans and named them Sherman I
(M4), Sherman II (M4A1), Sherman III (M4A2), Sherman IV (M4A3) and
Sherman V (M4A4). The Driver and the Radio Operator each have their own
hatch in the front hull. The Loader has a hatch on the top of the
turret. There is a cupola for the Commander on the top of the turret.
The Gunner uses the commanders cupola for exit. There is an escape hatch
in the floor of the hull which can be used by the entire crew. The hull
machinegun could be replaced with a flamethrower. A roof mounted smoke
mortar was added in early 1944. It is not NBC sealed.

M3 (Medium Tank): The M3 was introduced in 1941 to provide a tank with a 75mm Gun. The M3 is known as the Lee or Grant depending on the model. The Lee is the most common and has the Commanders machine gun intact, the Grant was similar but the Commanders cupola and gun are removed to reduce the overall height. The British used many M3's purchased through lend lease and had the Grant designed for their use. It was used in North Africa successfully against the Germans where its 75mm gun out performed the tank guns of its opponents. The 75mm Gun is mounted in a limited traverse mount in the hull front, the 37mm Gun is mounted in the turret, both weapons are stabilized. There are two fixed machine guns mounted in the hull front fired by the Driver. The Commanders machine gun is mounted in an armored cupola on the turret top and can be fired from inside, it may be aimed separately of the turret guns. The Driver has a hatch on the front hull. The Gun crews have a hatch on the top right of the hull beside the turret. There is a cupola for the Commander on the top of the turret. There is an escape hatch in the floor of the hull which can be used by the entire crew. Early models had a door on each side in place of the escape hatch. There were many variants of the M3 including many different engine packages. The M3 and M3A4 have gasoline engines. The M3A4 is slightly longer due to a longer engine and the M3A3 has a diesel engine. The cupola machinegun could be replaced with a flamethrower. It is not NBC sealed.
