Salmawet's Sword
By Rob Boudreau

Salmawet's Sword began its journey when an excellent t'skrang Swordmaster named K'Lando presented it to his promising young pupil, a human named Salmawet de Lionheart.

Salmawet used his sword for many years and in many adventures. One of the more memorable was one in which Salmawet was traveling with his long-time companion and trusted friend, Norr, a troll Weaponsmith. The two were exploring regions in the far West when they were captured by a force of Theran soldiers and forced to fight in an arena as entertainment for a group of high-ranking Theran nobles. In their first fight, the two faced a pair of Skeorx, and after an exhausting battle, emerged victorious. Seeing their prowess in fighting, the nobles selected a much more formidable opponent for next fight, a massive hydra.

The battle was long, and Norr was seriously injured midway through the battle. Seeing that both of their lives were on his shoulders, Salmawet put on a display of tremendous skill and slew the hydra. The nobles were so impressed that they released the two prisoners. As a token of gratitude and friendship, Norr improved his friend's blade before setting off on his own to take care of family affairs. Salmawet traveled to Kratas, where he met the love of his life, Rozalin, an Illusionist from Iopos. The couple set off for Forest Boudreaux where they planned to settle down. On their wedding day, Rozalin presented her groom with a magical diamond that had the ability to turn things invisible.

After years of quiet, peaceful living, trouble arose in the kaer where the people of Forest Boudreaux had resided during the Scourge. A Horror was luring children from the safety of their homes to its lair in the kaer, where it devoured them. Upon hearing of such news, Salmawet took his sword down from the mantle and his armor from a chest and set off for the kaer, his magically talented wife following him. The two heroes found that they were outmatched as the Horror wounded Rozalin within moments.

Fleeing further into Kaer Bourdreaux, Salmawet turned to his wife and told her she must flee. He pointed the sword at her and she vanished from sight. Knowing that she could sneak past the Horror if it was preoccupied, he attacked with fury like none other. He battled the Horror for hours and, with the love for his wife and unborn son guiding his blade, defeated the creature. He then returned to Forest Boudreaux, where he was named Lord of the land.

Lord Salmawet de Lionheart still resides in Forest Boudreaux, but his sword fell into the hands of a band of thieves. Rumor has it that he has promised a reward beyond imagination for whomever returns it to him. The sword has the following poem inscribed on its blade:

Strength without hands to smite
Love that endures for a breath
Day, the shadow of night
And life, the shadow of death

Salmawet's Sword is an average length broadsword that is surprisingly light. The hilt is shiny black and has a small depression in it. The blade curves slightly, and is polished to perfection.

Use the recipient's Willforce step for the Effect Test, and the wielder's Perception step for the Spellcasting Test (if the wielder does not have that talent). The Spellcasting Test is made against his comrade's Spell Defense. This invisibility lasts for 7 rounds, and the wielder need not concentrate to maintain the effect.
