The Geography

Malaysia is geographically located at the South East Asia.
Its two parts are separated by more than 650 km of the South China Sea:
  1. West Malaysia - it is the Peninsular.
  2. East Malaysia - is made up of the states of Sabah and Sarawak and the federal territory of Labuan, occupies the northern portion of the island of Borneo.

Peninsular Malaysia is dominated by a mountainous core consisting of several parallel north-south ranges. The highest, the Main Range, has peaks over 2,100 m (7,000 ft). Coastal plains are found between the mountains and the sea in the west and east.

Sarawak consists largely of coastal plain. In Sabah the narrow coastal plain gradually gives way to a mountainous region that divides Malaysia from Indonesia.

The Climate

Malaysia is mainly covered by Tropical Rain Forest and is drained by an abundance of rivers, many of which (especially those in the East Coast of Peninsular) are subject to flooding during the rainy seasons. Flood is the only natural disaster that might strict during monsoon season.

Malaysians are multiracial, comprising Malays, Chinese, Indian and other ethnic groups including Dayaks, Ibans, and Kadazans. Malaysian Chinese are the descendants of late-19th and early-20th-century immigrants.

The official language is Bahasa Malaysia, but English also widely spoken as "commercial language". In addition, various Chinese and Indian languages are common.

The state religion is Islam, to which the Malays adhere. Buddhism and Hinduism are the predominant religions among the Chinese and Indians, respectively. Christian is also a popular religion for some.

It cannot by denied that Malaysian are friendly, leaving in peace and harmony.



Economy

Malaysia has one of the best economies development in the world. Driven by it's innovative VISON 2020, the country is marching towards becoming a developed country. It is in the transition of switching from an agricultural to industrialised nation.

Its rate of growth slowed in the mid-1980s due to decreasing prices and demand for its leading exports. By the early 1990s, however, Malaysia's annual rate of growth had climbed to more than 8%, helped by a rapid expansion of manufacturing output.

Industry (including manufacturing, mining and construction) is the largest sector of the economy, It is also the world's leading exporter of semiconductor chips.

For decades, Malaysia remains one of the world's leading producers of tin, natural rubber and palm oil.

The abilities of the government is proven by it's success in the nation's rapid development.

Malaysia's government is modeled after the British system, somewhat modified because Malaysia's federal structure incorporates 13 states and several federal territories. A monarch, the supreme ruler, is elected every five years by the nine traditional rulers of Malaya, the sultans. Real power, however, is in the hands of the prime minister and the cabinet.

The bicameral parliament is composed of a partially appointed senate and a house of representatives whose members are elected by universal adult suffrage.
