Deckalb Blacks are moderately big. However they lay very well. We get extra large(I'm talking HUGE) brown eggs everyday. Since they are larger in body they would make rather good mothers. The only downside is the're hybrids and they likely woudn't go broody. Their bodies are solid black, even their feet, and in the sunlight they look dark green. They have some orange hackle feathers, making them look like orange dots on its neck and throut. They are a very ghood chicken and I would recommend them to anyone. They likely don't have any good meat qualities though. Is there such a thing as a perfect chicken? Thats what this site is meant to find out!
