Salmon Faverolles by themselves are not a breed, Faverolles are the correct term.Salmon is merely the colouring. Faverolles were first bred in France some long time ago. They are said to even have CooCoo Bird in their mix. They were very popular for their meat, some recipes even called for Faverolle meat. I haven't found out for myself yet but the're supposed to be very flavorful. Which brings up another topic, some of you city folk might not know this but different breeds of chicken do taste different! My Salmon Faverolles are very elegant looking. The hens are mostly salmon where as the Cockeral has black and white. The eggs I get from them are small (but inbreeding can do that). Now don't think it was I who inbred them, they came that way. The egg colour is lightish brown, usually solidly with no freckles. The comb is small on the hens but really big on the cock, so I would not recommend this breed for colder climates anywhere in the U.S. is O.K. The hens would be alright but the cocks would get frostbite bad and possably die, ours was lucky.
