Saccharine

pineapple threads across my cheek
lemon sunlight wafting in
I would swallow you whole
to discover how you think of me
to breathe your soft skin
to absorb your passion

natalie croons that I would break your heart
I know this already
squelched wisdom
sacrificed for honeyed aquaintance

that sour sun invades our osmosis
obscuring definition with preferred squints
confessing an indifferent appetite
bouncing on an ignorant tongue

filtered through a billion walls, I hear you
clear as rank water from a boiling bath
bubbling its yolks and its foamy whites
saying "I love you" in all ways
except to my mute green heart

while I whisper in your ear
sing your strange sleep into mine
drape your dreams against my frigidness
show your love to my blinking eye

my sugar coating is ragged at the knees
your flavor stays on my brain like tab
making me crave you
hailing me to the place where we purged

more words than I ever anticipated for us
give me preservatives to drive them back
something to stop them growing
to keep you here behind my thoughts
