Club meeting, 7:00 PM, Dennis Makashima will critique members' trees and describe how to improve the trees both for the upcoming show and for the longer term. Each member should bring a show-ready tree. Benefit drawing. New members and their sponsors receive $10 worth of drawing tickets.
Annual Bonsai Show The Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai 16th annual show is open to the public features a free hands-on beginners' workshop Saturday, May 4, at 10:30 AM for the first 15 newcomers to sign in on Saturday morning. A round robin demonstration of bonsai techniques will take place Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM. A guest bonsai artist will present a demonstration on Sunday, May 5, at 1:00 PM. Benefit drawings will be held following the demonstrations each day. Bonsai vendors are on site throughout the show and information about bonsai techniques, instructors, sources, and events is available. Admission and parking are free.Reception and pot luck dinner at 6:00 PM for club members and guests.

Annual Picnic, 9 AM to 3 PM, at the El Segundo Recreational Park. The picnic includes a bonsai workshop at 9:00 AM (bring your tools and trees to work on), barbecue lunch, and bingo for bonsai prizes.

Members brought trees to get advice on show preparations. 7:00 PM, bonsai demonstration: the annual President's Demo which is usually presented in January was held in March this year. Dr. Wagner demonstrated pruning, wiring, and potting with a Hollywood juniper. The finished bonsai was in the benefit drawing along with bonsai pots, tools, and raw material.
