Arms Heist and Al Maunah - Present White Paper And Not Unleash A Climate Of White Terror

The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday that the killing of non Muslim hostages by the Al Maunah group was intentional.

He also assured the non Muslim that their interest will be best assured if they continue to ensure that the Barisan Nasional government remains in power.

The nation’s worst arms heist and the barbaric murder of two hostages shocked the country. Justice demands that all those responsible for such murder be severely death with in accordance with the laws of the country.

The arms heist and Al Maunah standoff with the army have raised very grave national issues which must be immediately and effectively addressed, without any racial or political overtones.

It is disappointing that the Defence Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak missed the opportunity to demonstrate the government’s preparedness to address the issues in a transparent and responsible way by making a Ministerial statement in Parliament, pending the outcome of the investigations of the Board of Inquiry.

It is even more disappointing and irresponsible that the Prime Minister is not prepared to rise above party politics in addressing the issues. No one, especially the Prime Minister, should politicise the issues for political gains.

DAP reiterates its call that all political leaders must respond to the issues as leaders representing all Malaysians and not as party political leaders.

The government has the grave responsibility to address the issue in a responsible manner that can ensure the people’s interest. The Prime Minister should ensure early tabling of the white paper in Parliament and not unleash a climate of white terror among Malaysians.
