MB2 is one of three "blend" albums, that have a selection of both vocals and background music (BGM). The earlier episodes of the series are covered by Music Cocktail and it's twin, Music Blend. MB2 contains mostly music from the latter part of the series, with 27 tracks total. Five of them are vocals--three of them are opening themes; two are ending themes.
The cover contains an original illustration of Godai and Kyoko at the beach. The back of the booklet contains a scene from one of the earliest episodes when Kyoko was asleep on the roof along with track listings. Inside the booklet is a piece of paper with lyrics and illustrations printed in light blue. The tracks are divided into four movements. The back panel of the case has another early scene of Kyoko washing dishes in her "Piyo Piyo" apron.
The background music on this album, composed by Kawai Kenji, is a selection of the best that MI has to offer. Fans may recognize Kawai Kenji as one of the trio that comprises Headgear, which is the team that created the Patlabor series. It does not include any of the background music from other composers. From the very first track, the music recalls many of the best scenes from the TV series. Track 1, "Akatsuki ni wa Kane wa Naru," is a piece that plays during some of the best scenes of the entire series, including the climax. Track 16, "Kiss no aru Joukei," reminds you of Kyoko's recounting of how she fell in love with her first husband. Track 27, "Ai--Yoake mae," brings back memories of the last episode. It's all enough to make you just sit back and listen with your eyes closed. (-_-)
