THE ALAMO

The Alamo, known as "Independence Fort of the Republic of Texas", is one of the historic place to visit in San Antonio.

After Mexico won their independence from Spain, San Antonio was treated as a rebellious town by the Mexican dictator Santa Anna. In 1836, Santa Anna arrived to the Alamo to liquidate the Texans. During that 13 fateful days of strong attacks by the Mexican troops, 189 known patriots failed to defend the Alamo and were killed by the Mexican troops. The fall of the Alamo became true.

The next month, forty six days after the fall of the Alamo, less than 800 angered Texans and American volunteers led by General Sam Houston launched a furious attack on the Mexican army of 1,500 at San Jacinto. Santa Anna was captured. Texas was free; a new republic was born.
